265 load C to 285 load E on 16" wheels: ride quality?

    I really like 16" wheels, especially with 285 tires. I also really like Duratracs and will probably never drive another tire. The problem is, Duratracs don't come in a load C for 285s on 16" wheels.

    So, who's gone from a 265 load C to a 285 load E and can tell me how much stiffer/bouncier the load E tire felt?

    I'm hoping that extra inch of side wall on the 285s compensates for at least a little bit of the extra stiffness from the load E?

    The 285 needs a bit higher pressure for the same load, but certainly dont need the full 80 psi. Then if you let me calculate the needed pressure, comfort and gripp will be about the same as with the 265 D-load, mayby better, because nowadays prescribed pressures are kept higher then what you would calculate for the load and speed. But then the comfort and gripp of the 265 can also be improved, but fuell economy gets worse. A choice you have to make.
    Determining the loads on seperate tires is the most tricky part in it all.

    I guess everybody's butt has a different level of sensitivity. But I've had E rated 265/75/16's on my Tacoma in the past and didn't find the ride objectionable. On normal pavement it is hard for me to notice the difference between E rated tires and standard P rated tires. When you hit a pothole or start driving on gravel roads is the only time I could tell the difference in ride.

    I had 265 e rated on 17" wheels on my truck for a while before switching to 16" wheels and c rated 265. I could tell a difference, but like you it was most obvious hitting pot holes and it's hard to say how much was the difference between tires and how much was difference between wheel sizes.

    I did notice the e rated felt more stable on higher speed curves in the mountains, so I guess that's another benefit of stronger sidewalls.
