I just got 275/70/17's on the stock sport rims. I have the ironman 2" lift. The tires rub on the upper control arms at full lock. They rub the front portion of the control arm in the flat area. I really want to avoid spacers and would prefer not to buy new rims.

My question is would an aftermarket control arm help? I am looking at the light racing which look like they are a little thinner and shaped differently which may give me just enough clearance. Does anyone have a picture of the stock and the light speed stacked on top of each other?

You will most likely need to run wheel spacers or different backspaced wheels. Both options would be cheaper than running uni ball uca's.

    I run 275/70/17 Hankook ATm's on stock Sport 17 " alloys with a 2 1/2" OME lift and LR UCA's , I have no rubbing issues

TW member Teamfast has a 2 1/2" lift and runs 275/70/17 on stock Sport 17" alloys and stock UCA's , he rubs at full lock

Not definitive , but there it is

Thanks. I am just wondering if it is more the aftermarket UCA or the tire choice. I am running BFG AT too which seem to have a taller/more square design. I figure I could probably use new UCA and this may solve the slight rubbing. I may drive it a week and see if I can live with it. It is very slight and only at full lock.

Ended up getting FJ wheels and now have plenty of clearance on thr UCA. Its now rubbing the mud flaps but that should be solved tomorrow with some trimming.

The thing to remember when comparing the same tire sizes from different manufacturers is that just because the numbers are the same the actual measurements can be different. For example, a 235/40/18 from michelin for my audi will rub on the rear control arms, but the same tire size from continental clears by a large amount of space...

Im running 285/75R16's on my truck with a 3in OME lift and am rubbing on the UCA only in full turn. Will be adding spacers to my setup for now until I can get my hands on a set of LR UCAs

I know you don't want tp run spacers but just thought i would throw out an option. Have you seen the 1/4" spacers that slider over your factory studs? I ran those on my last Tacoma and did not have any issue with them at all. I figure with the 275 just being slightly wider than factory a 1/4" may give you the room you need and save you some money. I can send you a picture of the spacers if you want.

Here is the front UCA clearance with the new wheels. They are 17" FJ Cruiser wheels. Also the trimming of the front mud flaps to keep the tires from rubbing. I trimmed the mud flaps up a lot. [IMG][IMG]

sorry im late. its the bfgs, they have a square shape, thus the rubbing. my lift is only 2" as well. I can live with it though.
