Hey guys, looking for some advice.
I want to run 285’s in my 2022 Tacoma but it seems like it’s a lot more work (and money) than I anticipated.

looking at putting Elka 2.0 shocks front and rear and my truck and the shop that u trust to do the work said I’ll only be able to run 275’s. Without doing a body chop there will be lots of rub they’re telling me.

not trying to spend $4-5k for suspension and bigger tires.
Just looking to upgrade my stock suspension that will put enough of a lift to put the 285’s without using just a spacer lift.
Does anybody have any advice? Or pictures of their setup if they are running 275’s on a 3rd Gen. Would greatly appreciate the help!!!!

With 285s on a 2" lift, you are going to rub without negative offset wheels, and even then you will still probably rub without some trimming in your wheel well or a full on cmc. You will also likely run into rubbing issues on your upper control arms

I have a 2" TRD lift kit and run 275/70/17s on the TRD Pro wheels +4mm offset. No rubbing or issues whatsoever.

I have 285 75 16s with stock wheels and I rub on my uca at full lock. 2 inch in the front and 1.5 in the back. Bilstein all around.

2 inches, 275/70/17, no body mount chop required. Lifted my coworkers truck with that amount of lift no issues. No aftermarket UCA either.

Only Exception: removal of front mud flaps. And you will have to trim the smallest amount of plastic edge at lower fender area. As in a flap smaller than 1 inch by 1/2”

don’t go crazy with offset of a wheel that pokes out like crazy.

I still use my OEM mud flaps. Stock UCA's. No trimming or heat gun or anything like that. I'd assume that's because my wheels are +4mm offset as compared to most stock wheels at +25-30mm

285/70 17s on Methods. 0 offset. SPC UCAs and Toytech 2.5 BOSS. Did the CMC as a just in case. No rubbing anywhere thus far.

    This was on 275s and a ~2.75” lift 8BC66F7D-9751-4927-AD4B-AB4541BB89B9.jpg
I would honestly say go with the 285s from the beginning. I ended up spending more money because I just wasn’t happy with how small the 275s looked so I bought 285s.
Although it’s a never ending game, now I feel the 285s look really small since I have a front/rear bumpers and want to get 35s

Up 2.5ish with 275's. Get a ton of compliments and there's 5 that wanna buy it. I see no reason to get 285's.

I ran 275’s on my stock 2012 Sport for years, no lift, no trimming, no nothing. No rubbing. Off roaded it a lot, no rubbing, why lift for 275’s?

Many folks think that lift will help with rubbing when In reality it doesn’t. It’s the width of the tire that rubs.

Even 33”x10” will fit on stock suspension.

That’s a good size yeah. I’m Running 255/80/17, awesome tire size. Clearance of 33s without the extra weight and rolling resistance.

I have 275/70/17 with only a 1.5” lift in front. I used the bilstein 1500 set at the 4th notch, everything else stock. The tire/wheel width and offset will determine if you rub or not, not so much the height, but height does help clear a bigger tire

Advise on 285's and pictures of 275 setups. I have a photo of my 275 70 17 with about a 2" front 1.5" rear "lift."

You can fit 285's without a cmc. My truck 3 years ago. 2/1 lift, SCS 17X8.5 -10 w BFG 285/70R17. Only grinded/shaved small amount (inner area) of my cab mount and I didn't rub.
    IMG_7560.jpg IMG_7561.jpg

Current set up 2/1.5 lift with SCS 17X9 -38 w 295/70R17. CMC, pinch weld flattened and lots and lots of plastic cutting/trimming.IMG_3903.jpgIMG_5568.jpg
