If the battery is only maybe a half inch or inch taller then just buy yourself either a universal bracket, or you can get yourself a set of extended length J-bolts and make yourself a new bracket out of a flat piece of aluminum or something.

I made a new tie down using a 1/2” thick piece of polycarbonate flat reinforced with aluminum flat on top.

    Like so:

A Northstar 27F fits in my 2014 Sport. It took a little effort but it fits.

I just went through this tonight. Both (Walmart) a 24F as well as a 27 won't fit the battery hold down hardware. On the fenderwell side I cut the original rod down and then drilled it out so that a 1/4" battery hold down rod (10") could be used. On the other side the rod was long enough to work. It was quite easy but not something you could do in a pinch.....

A 27F is a wet lead-acid battery (or any wet lead-acid for that matter) can not be mailed to an APO because it is considered hazardous materials. If it were me, I would look to AAFES and see if you can buy a battery that will fit with the same terminal orientation with the CCA rating that still start your engine, for example a 24F, an Optima Yellow Top or any of the AGM batteries until you return to CONUS. Unless you buy the US (BCI) version of a European battery, you might have problems with your SAE battery terminals fitting on a European battery post. 27F's are becoming harder to find because few of them are being manufactured, so now might be a good time to upgrade to an AGM battery. Another option is to by longer "J" hold down bolts for your bracket as long as the hood does not interfere with your battery terminals.

I just picked up a new 27F from the an Interstate dealer in my area. I first asked if they had any "blems" (i.e. "blemishes"). A friend has had good luck buying buying blems from this dealer in the past, and the cost is about 1/2. I had thought this meant factory new with just cosmetic defects. The guy brought be out a reconditioned battery. I hesitated to even try it, since the warranty is only one year. I decided to go for it. It turned out to be about 1/8" too tall to fit my battery holder. Took it back inside and told them to just give me a new battery. That one fit perfectly. I was not nuts about the idea of a reconditioned battery anyway. I'm guessing it's just something a customer brought in that they cleaned up and put on a desulphating charger for a while.

Some Tacoma's w/factory tow package like mine, came from the factory with a 24F but had the option for a 27F, which only means a 27F will fit without any modifications. A TruStart 27F fit right in for me. If yours won't fit, your truck doesn't have that option. If it fits the tray, no big deal, get longer J rods that will fit, trim if needed to clear the hood, and be done with it.
Next time measure all three dimensions before you buy a battery, They're not standardized like they're supposed to be, and don't buy it online. No one online is going to measure anything.

Not all 27F's will fit without modifications. Apparently there are some variations regarding size in that battery class. Some might fit and others won't without some mods. This also holds true for some 24F's as well......

You would think the stock battery hold down would be adjustable at both ends.
I had to ditch my stock battery hold down bracket for this battery. I was planning to order the pretty $40 aluminum hold down but temporarily used an edger blade and some new J-hook rods with rubber spacers.
(Two years later I still haven't gotten around to ordering the fancy one.)

I went with this which is about a 1/4 in shorter than stock. I added a wooden spacer under it

Thanks all! The two 27F batteries I tried (Interstate and Bosch) were too tall. I went to a dealership and they gave me one (unknown brand, manufactured in Spain) at the bargain price of 160 Euro. It is about 1/2 inch too short so I guess I'll be heading to the German version of Home Depot to buy a block of wood. I haven't hooked it up yet...hopefully the terminals fit. Who knew changing a battery would be this complicated!?!? And being overseas just adds to the complexity. Thanks for all of your advice!

Obi's is the german version of Home Depot. They probably have something in their scrap bin that you can use as a spacer. It is very important to have the battery secured, especially if you drive on the cobblestone streets. The Europeans size the performance of their batteries by amp hour capacity. The battery you are talking about is probably is a 80+ amp hour battery which will be more than enough for your V-6. If you need any additional help please see the Car and Deep Cycle Battery FAQ. I believe that most of the larger American bases still have a MWR automotive workshop where you can get help.
