This is the best chart I've found that tells the offset based on rim width and wheel bs...

It's not that bad. When you wheel the truck you'll lose your mudflaps anyways.

Nice truck, BTW. Super clean. You must be pretty stoked with how it turned out.

Funny. Most like the way it sticks out. I actually wanted it to only stick out about 1-1.5". Oh well.

Actually, I like the slight rake. I'm going with 1.5" up front and 1.5" in the rear.

Alright Se7en, I've been watching your thread. I definitely do not want to raise the truck at this moment. Would you recommend your setup? I love the 285s!

I know you said the stock are 5.5 backspacing. If I found a 5.5 bs'd wheel would the 285s not rub at all?

Sorry, kind of new to this.

Well, not necessarily. It really all depends on your choice of wheel/tire. The stock wheels with 5.5" bs only allow roughly 1/8" to 1/4" of clearance between the UCA's and the side wall of the tire. You may get MORE bulge from the sidewall of the new tires which could cause a rub on the UCA's. Your best bet, and the perfect match in my opinion would be a ??x8" rim and a 5" bs. The extra .5" (5.5" stock - 5" new) would give you an extra 1/2" of clearance for any tire that you find on the inside. This would also reduce the amount outside the fender by 1/2". Now, the 8" wide rim (as opposed to the more common 9") would give you an additional 1" outside. If I'm at 2.25" outside that would give you roughly 3/4" outside the fender (2.25" - 1.5"). The places that rub on my setup are a direct result of the 9" rim vs. the 8". If I was able to reduce the 2.25" outside the fender by 1", I would most likely have cleared everything and would not rub. Problem was, at least for me, was that most of the ones I really liked were 9". Period...AND available in 4.5" bs. My particular model was available in a 5.71" bs, but that would have pushed it back in toward the UCA more than the clearance we have (1/8" to 1/4"). Too close for my comfort.

Make sense, or did I lose ya?

I love the way yours looks... do you have that big of rubbing issues with the 18x9?

kinda lost me but I think I get that I should go with a 18x8 wheel with 5"bs then, right? This will allow for the 285/60's without a lift?

This is going to be a hard wheel to find! What about an 8.5" wheel?

Wait. Let me saying something that may help more.

285's are between 11.25 - 11.5" wide, depending on manufacturer. This won't change very much with an 8" or 9" rim. What will happen is that an 8" rim will be fitted to a tighter rim, but the overall tread with of, say 11.25", will not change that much. The 8" rim will cause the tire to be slightly more oval at the treads, whereas the 9" will allow it to be more flat.

All that said, the only way to get enough clearance is to adjust the backspacing on the rim. As I said above, a 5" bs would be ideal. Anything more will be pushing it. A couple of folks on here have stated they've gotten away with anywhere from 5.21 - 5.46 bs...with no rubbing. My tire selection was one that had a more square shoulder as opposed to a rounded one. That square shoulder is what is rubbing on my setup. Again, if I had a 1/4", I'd probably clear everything. Now, this won't work for heavy wheelin'. I'd rub everywhere with that.

That's what my opinion is, because that's all we can really do is speculate, right? Most 18's are available in 9" only. 17's are good with 8's or 9's.

alright, I may have to make my decision when I hear how that 1.5" lift effects your truck. I really like the 18x9 with the 4.5" bs. Mine is an '05 so really don't care about the rock chips anymore. ;)
