Yeah my 285 tire fits perfect in the spare location with a 17” wheel. Didn’t even have to modify anything.

I got mine to fit no issue. You can either reach under and pull the tire to the rear as you raise it to clear the front brackets, or you can move the pully mount back to the rear an inch or two. I did the former. I tried the latter, but getting a wrench up in there was not worth my time or knuckles.

i had to hammer the tabs towards the front and then pulled the wheel back while hoisting it. Pretty close to the exhaust. Probably gonna wrap it with some header wrap just to be safe.

i took temp readings after a long drive and the tailpipe was around 170f and the tire was around 100f so not too crazy, but going to wrap that section with header wrap for piece of mind.

i had 265/70-17 before and they looked small with my lift. The 285’s definitely made it look better

Yea that’s what I was thinking. Gonna wrap it for now and if it’s worst during the summer gonna cut the tip off right behind The axle

i was on youtube there is a guy that relocate the bracket back 2'' and drill 2 hole to make the 285 work... sounds like too much work for a spare that i might never use..

Yea seems like a lot of work. Not sure how much more you could gain with moving it

I have one under there but cut my exhaust and don't have factory bumper. I'm not entirely sure if those get in the way much but mine seems to do okay

Ended up just cutting the exhaust to not have to worry about it. B523ECFE-DA6A-4EAA-B258-F15193B933BA.jpg

The secret is to have a 255/75/17 spare. That’s a 32.1” tire in most manufactures. It will fit readily under the truck without touching the exhaust or diff, it is readily available in many flavours being a stock Jeep tire size, and is thinner so doesn’t hang down giving you more ground clearance and better protecting the spare. You can even get this size in a c-rated or SL tire, which will save you some overall weight. Close enough to most 285/70/17 in diameter for being a spare.

Has this affected the noise level while driving or droning at certain cruising speeds?

Haven’t driven too much since cutting down but just short trips around town feel like it’s almost quieter than before no drone or noticeable difference so far.

Drilling and moving the mechanism only took 30 minutes. 285 fits but it’s best to only have 20psi when it’s mounted as it can impact the rear axle diff. The tail pipe is not going to melt it.
