Ok guys I’m and new to all this. I have read countless post on can you fit 285/70/17 on a 21 Tacoma SR5 rwd without trimming? I have a 3” front and 2” rear lift (supreme suspension)and (freedom off-road)aftermarket UCA’s, BFG 285/70/17 KO 2s. I have a friend running the same setup. Same truck, wheel, tire, and lift with factory UCA’s currently. I rubbing at the cab mount and he’s is not. From what I understand is the aftermarket UCA’s pull the tire closer to the cab to take the stress off the ball joint. Causing the tire to rub the cab mount. I’m not willing to do a CMC on this brand new vehicle so what suggestions would you give before I make the decision to drop my tire to a 275/70/17. Thanks for all the help!

Your gonna need more caster in the alignment. Even though the set ups are the same each and every truck acts differently.

The 275 will get a 1/4” clearance but from the looks of that picture it still probably gonna rub. I’d get the caster @ 4 to 4.5* personally that’s what I run. You could start at 3.5 and go from there.

Don't aftermarket UCA's actually move the tire back. Increased castor helps when you use the LCA. I may be wrong but I've been looking at this because I am going to try to fit this size with no lift. I'm planning on the CMC though along with some other trimming

How do I convince the alignment shop to pull it out that far?

Are you planning on keeping factory wheels? If so the 285s will rub the uca. And with no lift there will plenty of trimming going on and smashing the pinch weld. It can be done though.

So if they move the caster out to 3-4 what does that do to my handling?

It will help with tracking. Steering wheel centers better and is more responsive.

I have -10 8.5 inch. If it looks really bad I will throw a spacer lift in till I can get some Bilstein. I'm more curious if I can and I hate crawling up my truck to get anything out of the bed so I figure it's worth a go

You good with clearing the uca with that wheel. It can be done it’s just how much do you wanna cut.

So maybe I’m dumb or whatever but if the pull the caster forward towards the front of the truck wouldn't it be all over the road and hard to keep straight?

Opposite I think. Slow to turn but stable at speed.

Imagine it like a skate. If the 4 wheels where close together in the center it would be unstable but if you push those wheels out to the corners it becomes much more stable.

So on the alignment sheet the if I’m
Able to talk them into moving the caster to 3.5 it will be in the red correct? The numbers on the sheet are factory specs only?

If I go more positive the tire will really rub at that point since positive caster moves tire to the cab.

This shows positive caster pulls tire to cab.
