No. Trust the many of us on here that have done it. Unless you really wheel, totally not worth it.

You can check out my build thread if you like. Plenty of pics of a 3" lift with 265's and then 285's.

    just a few things.
depends if you have tools to punch your pinch weld, chop your cab mount and flares.

I have been to quite a few places with my 265s and i havent had any issues wheeling with them yet. Or at least not any issues that i thought 285s would have solved. Also depends on where you live and what you wheel. Wider tires are nice for the mud. With these LT trucks i have heard lots of people swear by 255s for wheeling/driving combo.

You can also always air down a bit if you need the extra footprint width.

You can see from the photo below that i was really only having traction in 1 area of my front passenger tire. I dont think that a wider tire would have helped much.

Personally i think its more about preference than anything.

Does anyone have suggestions about going 285/75/16 and the stress it will have on a 4.0 v6 and auto transmission?

I have kind of wondered the same thing. I have been thinking about going with a 285/75/16 setup but dunno about the stress of the transmission and motor.

The truck will function fine mechanically with the 285s. They aren't that much taller and depending on what you get there are 285s that are as light as some 265s. You may or may not have to do allot of work to make them fit. I have test fit one on the front of my OR and only needed to soften and move the plastic fender liner a little at the front of the opening. I have a 6112 lift set at the 5/6 settings.
    I off-road tho.
