Need some help here guys! Just installed the icon Stage 3 kit on my 2017 offroad double cab short bed. Dealership installed as part of the deal.

total lift gained in the front is right at 2" over stock.

They put 285-70R17 Duratracs on ATX Cornice wheels (17x9 with -12 offset 4.53 backspace)

They rub, BAD. Like half turn on level pavement and it hits the frame mount.

Castor is set at maximum (according to the alignment guy).

I need tire wheel suggestions that wont require cab mount chopping. Will a different wheel work for these tires and keep it from rubbing?

    Hey all,

I'm planning on putting 285/70 R17 Toyo Open Country AT tires on my new 2017 TRD-Off Road in a few weeks. I purchased a pair of Pro Comp 5001 Matt Black wheels with 0 offset to go along with them. I have a pair of Bilstein 5100's that i will be setting at ~1" for the front.

Basically, I'm hoping everything will fit. According to multiple tire calculators i should be clear of suspension components with this setup, I just may hit some plastic in and around the wheel well. Who knows. The OP gives me hope though.

I'll report back after I install. If this works out well i think this setup may be perfect for a lot of people like me who don't really want to lift the truck but definitely want something more aggressive, and capable than stock.

    Any input is appreciated.

If you actually offroad your rig and flex out the suspension, you WILL need to chop the cab mounts to fit a 285 tire. The guys that report no rubbing only drive on the street.

The OP didnt report CMC. The Toyo's run a tad small, hoping not to have to do this.

I do have a TIG, MIG, and Plasma though so its not really a problem. Just will get looked at funny for cutting up my brand new truck.

I hear ya. Im really annoyed that my tires rub. All the research I did, as well as the dealership mechanics, made it seem like they wouldnt rub. Im just going to live with it until I feel like doing a cmc. Its not bad on the street, just hits the cab mount when youre flexed out and the wheels are turned.

@Fr8dawg You were totally right. 285/70R17 with zero offset 8" wide wheels with 4.5 backspace rubbed all over the place for me. Had to remove the factory mudflaps. Had to trim the inside lower portion of the over-fender. Hat to get really creative with the heat gun.

The front area I was able to heat gun and adjust the position of the fastener that connects the wheel well to the bumper. I have over an inch of clearance there now, it will not rub there.

The back of the front tires is another story. I'm going to do a CMC just as soon as it warms up. I will also need to remove part lower wheel well to cut back some body medal there that is preventing me from heat gunning it further out of the way. I'll also need to modify the mudflaps with a bracket so they sit further back.

Tires now fit, but its close. I wont take it off road until I do the CMC. I have no lift, that would help but I may stay on my sock Bilsteins for a while, I really like the current ride height.

Nice @lsutiger1 . Did you do a CMC or did you have to just use a heat gun on the fenders? Whats the offset of your wheels?

I haven't done anything, dealership installed the lift and have not had any rubbing issues at all.

I think the back spacing on my Method rims is 4.5

OP, So you got 285/75R16 to fit well on stock rims? I am not worried about rubbing (UCA and a little work to fix that) or power as I have a 6spd :)

Not to answer for OP, but I believe he only fit them with 1.25 SPIDERTRAX spacers. I put 285's on my stock truck with zero offset rims, and they rubbed bad. Removed the mudflaps and it was drivable with rubbing in both the front and the rear. Reworked the front plastic with a heat gun and have no rubbing there at all. Reworked the rear body metal pinch welds, and performed a CMC, and now I have no rubbing, although I'm still within 1/4" of some plastic wheel well at full stuff about 1/2 to lock.

The offset on stock wheels will probably help not rub on the outer edges of the tire front and rear like mine did but you are almost definitely going to rub on your UCA and the vehicle will be undrivable.

Check how much clearance there is now between your UCA and your factory tire. Mine was almost 1/2" from the factory, which is not enough for my comfort when driving, considering the wheels are just under an inch wider, which is why I chose to get new wheels.

Thank you for the reply. I only ask because I am trying to save some money and not having to get new wheels. I actually like the stock wheels and not having to buy new ones would be nice.

If those spacers worked well, I might go that route. I know spacers are not the best option so I will have to keep my options open i'm sure.
