You want less positive caster because when your suspension compresses, more positive caster means more rearward wheel travel. Go minimum spacer to get you to clear the UCA, if you even need one. I have a bone stock pro, heat gunned the front and eliminated my CMC rubbing by reducing caster. Only use the spacer if it's absolutely neccesary at the UCA

It’s a total process to eliminate the rubbing when running 285’s. Every truck is different but I’ll tell you what worked for me. 3” lift, Spc adjustable uca’s, heat gun plastic in the front with some trimming, cmc, hammer pinch weld and an alignment setting the wheel more forward in the wheel well. Prolly not gonna happen over night. But now I can bounce up and down trails all day and not rub at all. 3A3A974F-5492-4A9C-B5AA-D8FD27F65060.jpgThe struggle is real but worth every bit of time and effort

What's the next step? I ask because I would love to do 285s but did not want to chop the truck up to make it happen. Just want to follow what steps you take.

I was able to fit 285’s with 2” lift on Taco Pro wheels with zero issues....however I had alignment issues for a while so I decided to get high caster UCA’s which required me to get wheel spacers to clear UCA’s, which then required me do a CMC, and do wheel well trimming, hammer pinch welds.....then more plastic trimming then find a GOOD alignment shop not Firestone....it’s a process lots of tweaks here and there for your specific problems....once you clear everything sit back and enjoy your 285’s

Then those tires wear out and you go with 315s and do the whole process over again

Wrong. 0mm offset. Works for several people, myself included. Had to melt back a bit of plastic in the wheel well. 0mm offset is the only way to pull off that tire size without a lift or doing any hacking.

You presented evidence for why 0 offset works but I don’t follow why +25 is not best case. Is it because of UCA?

What will/won't rub is a moving target because so many things can affect it.

When I had my 285's put on using the stock wheels, the shop said that during a near identical install a couple days prior that the tires rubbed hard on the frame (not the cab mount). Luckily, mine didn't. Both trucks were lifted and got the CMC done. I'm not sure what the difference was, but my tire had a full hand thickness of room between the tire and frame at full lock.

I had no interest in running wheel spacers. As my nuclear option, I had brought a full set of different wheels with me to my appointment to use just in case they rubbed (16" Tacoma Pro wheels which had a slightly less positive offset).

FWIW, my setup: approx 2-3 lift with TC UCA's and 3.5 caster, BFG KO2 285's on stock off road wheels, CMC and pinch weld cut done (doesn't come close to rubbing here).

Were the 285s not rubbing those control arms with the suspension compressed or at full lock?

Positive offset causes too much rubbing to fix without hacking.
