Okay, been searching all night and have conflicting reports. Many say that 265/75/r16 are the max tire size for stock suspension. However, some say 285/75/r16 with some "MINOR" mods with Billy front suspension will work. Going to get new tires this coming week and just wondering what will actually work (if that includes trimming, etc. BUT NO NEW UCA, etc.). Your thoughts...:)

5100's all around, 2 inch lift, polyurethane body mounts, gibson exhaust, variation of the deckplate mod, intake resonators removed
My 98 is running 31x10.50x15's and that was on the stock suspension. I have installed 5100's set at the middle setting and had the rear springs done to match and it looks like I could go to a 33x10.50x15 with no trouble but my tires are like new so not for a while. Not sure how those numbers transfer to metric, but once you lift I think the width of the tire and the type of rim might be more important.

No, they only allow for more lift in the rear such as an AAL, shackle lift, or lift blocks. But they are not adjustable and do not provide any lift.

if you go with a wider tire you will need a wheel with more backspacing or wheel spacers

Are you running any wheel spacers/adjustable front bilsteins/coils in the front? I am leaving everything stock, except putting in new 5100s @ 1.25 in front and 5125s in the rear.

Just have an aggresive backspacing on the rim i think -12. the tire just sticks out bout 1/2" past the fender flare, yea mine is bone stock now, looking into a OME liftand some Lca's in the new year:D

So without wheel spacers, 285/75/r16 on stock alloys would not work with 5100s @ 1.25 and 5125s in the rear? Any 1st gen taco owners out there running 285/75/r16 with billies set at 1.25 without wheel spacers on stock alloys?

you would have to have the 5100s at the top setting and still have to cut, band in the pinch weld.

if you use the 1.25 wheel spacers you will have to cut away even more fender

if you dont use wheel spacers you will end up rubbing on the UCA

and while you CAN mount 285s on the stock alloys it isnt a great idea....some shops wont even do it

keep in mind that to even put these tires in there you will NEED to be at the top setting on the 5100s and will still have to cut. the 5125s in the rear add no lift so they wont even matter.

I have been running 285/75/16 Treadwrights on black powdercoated FZJ80 wheels since July. I have a SuspensionMaxx coil spacers with AALs in the back. I get some frame rubbing at pretty much full lock in the front but nothing on the UCAs. I had to do some trimming too but nothing too major. I get an occasional rub in the back too but not very often. I do sort of wish I went with the next size down but not that big a deal. I am hoping to get some Bilsteins next spring all the way around unless I find something else. They would be on there now but noone had Bilis most of the summer.

BTW retread naysayers, the Treadwrights have performed flawlessly and balanced easily.
