Hello fam, I know probably this was discussed in other threads for years but I’ve read so many threads and watched YT videos and none of them have a straight answer so please bear with me. :(

Question: Planning on upgrading to Yokohama Geolandar G003 MT 285/75 R17 (since my 285/70 K02s are almost done) and wanted to know if I need to re-gear (friend put that thought in my mind) Main concern is that something breaks or cause too much stress to the trans/engine/diff while offroading. I have OTT tune and the truck feels way more responsive with current tires and offroad great IMO, so I wonder if I can get away with the 285/75s without regearing and nothing will break or let me stranded in the middle of a trail.

Background BS info: Current setup regarding tire fitment is 2.5” Eibach Stage 2 suspension, JBA UCAs, 17x9 -25 wheels, aggressive cmc and pinch weld, viper cut. The taco is a 22 TRD OR and its my daily drive and weekend offroad/camping “warrior” (I really beat it in the trails/mud). Wont be doing rock crawl anytime soon, I enjoy mudding and driving fast in shady af unknown trails every now and then. And I live in Florida so not any mountain or heavy climbs. :D

Oh, and I dont care for MPGs I bought it knowing it will chug gas like a mf and dont care about that (smiles per gallon > mpg) and feel free to correct me if I have wrong information.

    Thanks in advance

You don’t need to, but the truck will be much more enjoyable to drive if you do. All a question of what you can afford. I’m regeared to 4.88’s on 275/70/17 and no regrets. Regearing does lessen the strain on your transmission with larger tires, but these transmission seem pretty much bulletproof, so it’s more a question of drivability and torque.

I think it comes to how deep your pockets are and if you want the drive to be more enjoyable. Otherwise, just drive it as it is.
