Just picked up some ultra gauntlet rims running the stock 265/65R17 tires but want to upgrade to a 285 width would a lift be needed or would a level kit work

Rims are 12mm off set 5.43 back spacing thanks for your help

Depending on what size the level kit is will determine if 285's will fit. It you just install a 1.5/0 kit, no way will 285's fit.. A 2.5/1 should be ok, but it will be close. I just installed a 1.5/0 kit and I'm going to run 275's. 275's will be tight.

Lol totally she was pretty upset it took a while to calm her down. I listed them on here if you know anyone that would be interested pass the word I will consider reasonable offers. I'm not really looking to lift it will be a daily driver / work truck so the stock height works for me. Thanks again for all the info and help.

The wheels don't have the right specs to fit 285s

They sit too close to the UCA's by about an inch. They are designed for 265's.

They do not fit 265 that is what I put on them the tire was stretched to fit the rim. I think 285 would fit better than 265

    Oh they are 9" wide?

Yeah then they are really not even designed with our trucks in mind. You would need 17x9 -12 offset, 4.5" backspacing to fit the 285's.

They physically fit yes, because they have the Tacoma bolt pattern.

And there are some 265s that are approved for 9" wide rims. That's what I'm running.

Welcome to TW. You will have to trim the fender well plastic and possibly chop your cab mounts. Pease look around and explore our site, this is a very common question.

As KPT said, you are going to want a wheel with 4.5" of backspacing when running a 285. The factory wheels are something like 5.5". Or you could run wheel spacers like spidertrax.
