    I'll admit that 285s look pretty sick on Tacoma's, but I also think skinnies look pretty good too. Right now I'm on 265s and debating on what my next move will be as far as tire size. I'm curious to hear from those who upgraded to 285s whether it was worth the trimming/cutting, MPG loss, etc, or do they have buyer's remorse and would have chosen something different. I don't want an E-rated tire and I also don't want a SL rated one either. Preferably C-Rated or XL would be ideal for a DD.

    Right now I'm torn between;

    285/70/17
    255/75/17
    265/70/17

    I like the look of 255/80/17s but they only come in E-rating. Thanks for any input you can provide in helping me decide on what's best.

    I have a 3rd gen so it’s kind of apples to oranges but I put 33” Yokohoma G003’s on mine a while back. It affected the braking and acceleration more than I liked so I switched back to 265/75/16.

    Your response is what I'm looking for. Thanks. The G003's is one of the tires I'm considering. It's a badass tire and seems to get a lot of good reviews.

    Yeah I can confirm it’s a great tire. Also, Yokohoma has the best customer service of any company I’ve ever dealt with.

    I have a tune but I’m not regeared. I’m sure with a regear it would be great. I’m also a driver and I do a ton of highway miles so I’m probably more picky than the average person in terms of breaking and acceleration.

    The G003 seems to be one of the more highway friendly MTs. I'll probably stick with the 265 or 255 series but everytime I see some 285s on a Tacoma it makes me question myself. I've also got a tune but not regeared.

    You are missing the proper 285 size.

    285’s do look great. 255 is the one size I haven’t tried yet.

    I have been running 285/75/17's even though they are KO2's that only come in "E" load and at times I wish they were "C" load in that size but there are other brands that do come in a "C" load in that size. But like with all things in life you have to learn to except some cons when wanting the pros.

    255/80/17 is closer to 33 than 285. I’d go with anything bigger than stock looks good.

    Although 35s look good and many people run them, I'm not interested in a tire that large. I don't want to regear just to drive my truck like normal.

    I ran 265/70 17 BFG KO2 for a while and didn’t mind it. The work to get 285/70 wasn’t that much and while it may have caused some mpg loss, made a world of difference cosmetically to me. I think 285/75 is even better but like my ridge grapplers in 285/70. I just never liked the looks of skinny or pizza cutters on the 3G so it wasn’t an option.

    Before and after for reference

    I think 16” rims look the best on Tacomas. I personally would even get 15” rims if I could! That being said. I love my 285/75/16 KO2’s and would never go smaller!

    I know you’re asking about 17’s but I went from 265/75-16 to 295/75-16 and yes, had to trim the finder liner a bit but my grapplers are still pretty quiet and clear everything. Wouldn’t go back!
