We got back home last night after a 10-day 2900 mile trip. The truck ran excellent; mileage was very good; the transmission shifted great even through the mountains; and the seats were very comfortable.

I DID; however, have problems with the Navigation system rebooting over 12 times. It seems to be a problem on long drives and not consistent with the radio (no JBL) being on or off but always with a destination programmed. It would go blank without warning and reboot. We also noticed it changing routes for no reason, sometimes having us change directions on the highway when we knew heading the opposite direction was not correct

It's at the dealer now but they've called back and said they have to replicate the problem in order to fix it. What a croc of shit!! There is no way to replicate the problem and even if they could, there is no code or any indication of the root cause.

Has anybody actually had this problem and resolution???

I read somewhere last week the nav gets its data from the HD radio.

    Where did you drive to?

    Road Cruising Summary 2016 TACO SR5 4X4

    1. Completed a 2050 mile round trip from Dayton Ohio to Altus Oklahoma with new 2016 SR5 Taco 4X4 with Auto Transmission; the 5ft bed was full of apartment dweller items for my son.

    2. Overall very pleased with truck and ride….swapped original Hanook tires with Michelin Defenders before trip…Defenders performed extremely well in dry and heavy rain conditions and were quiet running at highway speeds.

    3. MPG averaged 20-23 MPG at highway cruisin speeds from 70-75 MPH….note: used cruise control ONLY on flat highway conditions….because when I attempted to use cruise under rolling hill conditions the truck would down-shift from 6th to 5th with RPM jump from 1800 to 2300 respectively; and with some steeper hill conditions truck would down shift again to 4th gear jumping RPM up to 3200…this made for an elevated noise level in the cockpit, however, the speed was maintained without deviation. But, without cruise control, I was able to avoid the repeated downshifts by the auto transmission with only slight decrease in speed on most hill conditions yet maintaining speeds 70-75 MPH (would be nice for Toyota Engineers to design a Highway configuration switch for the transmission for these conditions or use a 8 speed transmission to handle more diverse highway conditions for cruising with the truck).

    4. Used Rain-X on windshield and this was a game changer in ease of removal of smashed bugs on windshield; also helped visibility during heavy rain downpours during the trip…we also use on back windows!

    5. After the road trip the truck had 3700 miles … so I changed the oil and oil filter myself; had to remove the skid pan via 4 bolt to get at oil filter… (Waiting for 2017 Taco Pro to see if skid pan can be replaced since I hear the Pro will have quick access port for oil filter). Used 0-W20 Mobil 1 and K&N oil filter during replacement. In addition, replace the oil pan plug with a Fumoto drain plug for ease of use for next round.

    6. Overall great truck...easy to drive and ended the trip without any failures!

I did basically the same thing with the cruise control. I drove very easily while the tranny was in the "learning mode" and my truck now peforms exactly as you've described.

The best way to show the service guy what is going on so they can't say we need to recreate it is VIA a video. Record what is happening on your phone and bring it in. The video proves its happening and allows the service manager to take it to the next level.

Yes, they told me today that I may have to delete all of my contacts loaded into the system and removing my Bluetooth paring. I told the Service Manager that it needed to be replaced but they said it had to be proven to the Manufacturer. Toyota is not admitting there is a problem. The dealership said they will open a technical report with Toyota.

I'm getting ready to bend over

Totally unnecessary waste of money time and resources to change oil this early. Manufacturer recommends 10k miles and these trucks have synthetic oil in them. The company puts a lot of time and large craniums into researching appropriate maintenance intervals for these trucks. Doing otherwise is an exercise in futility.

Funny you say this. I have just come back from my trip to South Carolina. I drove last Friday from Tampa, FL to South Carolina with zero issues. On my way back from South Carolina this morning, I left the gas station and my Head Unit Decides to reboot... I was like yeah, course this would happen when I turn 5k miles. The Unit rebooted around 10 times through out my trip. I took it to the dealer for the 5k checkup and the firmware is fully up to date. They could not replicate it. I did however get them to hear my chirping and found out its the High pressure fuel pump as said by another member, so that will be fixed atleast. I will say that I was getting 23mpg and the trip was comfortable. The transmission would forget to upshift after a steep hill but other then that I was very happy with the truck!!

Well I suppose that I changed my oil and filter totally unnecessarily too just today. I change mine every 5,000 miles regardless of what the book indicates or opinions. Why? Because I can.

You know something? Your posts are mostly negative and opinionated if someone doesn't do things like you. Don't believe me? Read them!

Oil changes are one of the least costly things you can do. The guys at my local Kwik Kar Lube are very good. Trust them more than the dealer.

No. No dueling here. I just don't think it's mature to call people names because you don't agree with them. Trust me, I see LOTS of posts and comments that make me shake my head, but I don't post negatively simply because I disagree

Uh.. pretty sure it's 10k. That seems to be the common belief here and I'm pretty sure it says 10k in the manual.

Actually Toyota Care says 5K is to rotate the tires. Some dealerships offered customers 5K changes, but the 2016 Taco factory oil changes are every 10,000 miles as outlined by Toyota Care.
