29ers make it easier to just point and roll over stuff. I'm not a 29er hater, but they're much more forgiving for riders picking shitty lines and poor riding skills

Rockland Preserve is a local mtb spot that blew up the last few years, and has a lot of rules. When it gets “closed” for wet trails, the guy “in charge” posts on FB and tells all the Freds that it’s “closed” and tells them to go to the lesser known spots. My friends and I have been riding the lesser known spots for ever. Nobody polices them, they’re technical, and have good stunts evwrywhere. The Freds app go there, take up all the parking, and move things to make the trails easier, block stunts, etc. So one of my buddies had a bunch of stickers made. We may or may not have handed them out to some Freds one morning. They may or may not have been stoked about free stickers until they read them...

the Plano case that I have is their sportsman’s box. It has no hinges, no top reinforcement, and is not water tight. I’ll be replacing it with the “storage” box in the same size to get hinges and a sturdier top, and use this one for camping gear instead. I have had mine exposed back there for about a month, and it has rained a bunch, and none of it has gotten in, so I’d say it has met lofty and hopeful expectations of keeping my stuff dry.

    27.5, but a 29er would fit nicely.

Heck, back in the day, we would load up a couple of 250cc dirt bikes in the back of my Nissan 4x4. We used rope and slip knots as I recall.

It understandable if some can’t handle a faster bike that can tackle more technical terrain.

To each their own I suppose, but this argument is just silly. It's about the same as saying the fuel injection is for people who are too lazy to get out and adjust their carburetors every couple of months.

If you like your 26" wheels, great. I like my 29er.

Just lift the rear up and close the gate and let it sit on it when you have other stuff in there.

Good reply when you have nothing intelligent left to say. Have fun with your carburetor.

I was a diehard anti-29 guy, switched to 27.5 from 26 a handful of years ago, and was a full blown believer. I finally gave into the industry about a year ago and ordered my 2019 Cannondale Habit. Built it up in February and have been loving it. It doesn’t feel like cheating, it is only slightly less playful than a 27.5, but holy shit is it fun to ride. I hit myself in the ass with the rear tire a couple times early on, but got used to the clearance difference after that. I don’t honestly think whee size makes all the difference in the world, now that manufacturers have figured out how to make frames fit around 29s. It’s more about how well they fit their frames around the wheels, to minimize trade offs of going bigger with wheels.

I don’t ride one because I’m lacking in skills, 5 years of riding exclusively rigid singlespeed and keeping up with friends on enduro and trail bikes fine tuned my handling and line choice. I don’t ride one because “29s are faster” because I kept right up with 29ers on my 27.5 bikes for ever. I ride one because that’s what was available, and the downsides to bigger wheels have all but gone away now that frame geometry has finally caught up.
Also, here’s a better view of my rear wheel tie down.

edit for shameless plug. I unfortunately have to sell this bike. I’ll replace it in the spring.

Plenty of suggestions here, but sell the truck and get a long bed is the easiest solution
