First post here - picking up mine tomorrow.

I've been reading here for a while trying to learn as much as possible. Looking on most parts sites, I'm sure you know that 16 Tacoma isn't even a menu choice a lot of the time. Since I've seen some cases where parts will swap between 15 and 16 (wheels would be one) - can we make some kind of master sticky list of parts that are known to fit the 3G from previous models?

On a related note, I'm wondering if the stereo head unit is the same...

    Thanks,
    John

Oil sensor from 2015 fits on 2016.

    Oh wait, nevermind.

The suspension is the same so lifts are interchangeable.

Why do you guys seem to get so worked up over an oil level sensor? Most modern engines have one.

Was meaning to ask if you had ordered/received your Coverkings and how they fit. I almost ordered, then held off since they only had an 'ALL' model option for the 16s. They have several versions for the 15 and want to make sure they are fitting before getting a set for the 16.

It's a joke. We know it's an obvious improvement. It's just that the trolls somehow see it as a huge negative.

They'll both hold their value well. They will both last a long time if taken care of. They are both much better than any other vehicle because Tacoma.

I'm looking more specifically for bolt-on interchangeability for aftermarket parts. I.e. - will a 2015 tonneau cover fit on a 16 bed?

The composite box itself is the same as are the side rails. That said, the bed side panels are taller and there is a small extension bolted onto the front of the box to make it taller as well. Tonneau covers meant for the 2015 will likely not fit the 2016 due to that, but most other bed accessories should work fine.

There is really a lot that is the same between the 2015 and 2016, as the 2016 isn't so much a new generation as it is a highly gone-over 2nd generation. It's a very extensive update, probably one of the biggest I've seen from Toyota, and yet at it's very core it's still based on the same original designs.

Suspension is mostly the same, save for the front lower control arm bolts and the spring rates and shock brand/valving. Fuel tank and many items like the front skid plates, etc., are the same. The brakes are the same. Running boards/step bars are the same. Roof racks are the same as much of the cab externally is (much was done to reinforce it internally). The frame is the same with some modifications done to increase rigidity (stronger steel, bracing).

Chassis codes for the 4-cylinder models didn't even reset to 0 when they started building the 2016. The first 2016 was just the next number after the last 2015 since it's built on the same assembly lines and shares the same chassis codes.
