I've got like 50k towing on my AT and have never really had too many complaints regarding power when towing within the trucks capabilities. Could be better, could be worse.

Maintenance info is definitely helpful context.

Honestly, I disagree with your last point about not wanting to pull more from the power-plant, though. The 2gr-fks is definitely capable of pushing more power reliably. You can look to the other applications of the motor for reference, the Sienna, Camry applications push 311 hp on stock components Lexus closer to 340. With some tuning that can be bumped higher, just need to account for greater wear risk.

I'm sold on what caused the issue: oil cavitation at the pickup tube causing under lubrication leading to failure over time. Same issue that's been known on the 2gr platform for some time. For me it was dry starts due to being parked on an angle with driver side higher than passenger side. Fo off-road folks it'll be high angle driving, performance folks high bank turns.

Surge protection in oil delivery will help protect against pressure loss, oil catch at pct and ccv will help prevent ascis failure. I've been going whole hog post rebuild and this truck can definitely party.

My engine was absolutely bone stock, other than having the TRD intake and exhaust because it's a Pro.

Oil was changed every 5k, Toyota Brand or Mobile 1, nothing else and only Toyota Brand filters.

The only thing I could possibly think of...is the original intake suffered an ACIS flap failure and let the flap rattle around in the intake. But the engine never ingested anything, I caught the bushing on top of the valve before any damage was done.

I have a whole thread created about that issue, the symptoms, and the diagnosis on how I found out that's what it was and how I fixed it.

But what caused my engine to fail was something else entirely. It was an apparent oil pump failure due to debris in the oil from a failed part.
