For $1K I'd back my VW out of the garage and spank the shit out of you!! I'd do a 1/4 mile on a dirt gravel road and kick the shit out of you with my Taco too....

I love my truck. Gets decent gas mileage and is a blast to drive with your foot into it. Once the R's are up it rips. Fun to put it in standard mode auto and get after it. Also the more miles I put on it the more and more it comes alive as well! I was a little confused by the transmission when I first got the truck but as soon as I learned what it was doing based on the throttle input it was getting I realized how sophisticated it was and how good it works when you learn it. Completely satisfied with the whole powertrain!

The 3.5 pulls hard from around 4,500 till 6,000. Need to rev it to make power. No low end off the line. I'll eventually run mine at the dragstrip and see what kind of ETs it actually runs. 60' times will be 2.0+ for sure even launching in 4WD.

The 2GR-FKS isn't the motor the 1GR was as far as power. Trucks need low end power, the 2GR does not deliver. This is evident not only from the numbers but from what people are saying that actually drive the thing. After seeing some in person I really like the looks of the third gen (especially interior) but I'll be holding off until we get a better engine option.

I'm happy with the power of the 3.5. Stronger than the 1GR on the top end by quite a bit. With bolt ons like intake, headers, Y-pipe, and exhaust it'll be close to the supercharged 1GR horsepower-wise. It's only ~20 HP shy of the supercharged 1GR. Just the bottom end is less than spectacular.

I would really like to find some empirical data (stock dyno) or objective testing to compare/contrast the power profiles of the 1GR vs the new 2GR-FKS. I personally would like to know how much of the feel is just due to tune or gearing, etc, or at least better quantify what the low-end difference in power is.

Yeah true. I posted this 7GR stuff since it has some similar specs as a point of discussion; seems like they could be very similiar engines (bore x stroke, power almost the same). But, I have no data on the other elements you mentioned.

From my understanding the 2GR is an Otto cycle engine that uses a "simulated" type of Atkinson effect that can be turned on and off based on driving conditioned... I would think that if that's the case then a new tune could be written wherein the Atkinson is permanently deleted. New cams could certainly alter the power curve for the better too.

I foresee this engine earning itself a reputation similar to the old 3.0. I also bet you that the Tacoma gets a diesel at some point in the nearish future. I don't care what Mike Swears says, in fact, them saying that it will never happen leads me to believe it in fact will.

Toyota is being smart and letting Dodge/Nissan/Chevy experiment with it first.

I remember hearing early on the headers couldn't be replaced for some structure reason on the 2gr... Is this true? can anyone possibly get a picture of their headers as well

The headers are cast into the cylinder heads so they can pump coolant around the exhaust as it leaves the exhaust port. Allows them to keep the catalysts cooler without dumping fuel through the system

I agree with you. I own the new Tacoma, but prior to purchase I test drove several Canyons/Colorados...not even close, The GM twins are much quicker and accelerate hard with little effort on the gas pedal. But, I'm still glad I got my Tacoma.

Is it possible to burn rubber in the auto without power dropping from park into drive whilst revving??

Yes, it is possible to ruin your transmission.

I think what he's asking is "Will it burn out without having to ruin the transmission?"

Will it burn out without having to ruin the transmission ?
So, he means; "How can I draw attention to myself with out spending $3000 ? "
