But does not benefit from a “minivan duty” engine. No engine stands up to more abuse than a minivan engine.

I can attest to this. If I could fit 33” tires on one I’d trade my taco for it. I’ve owned two Camry’s and the only grief they ever gave me was the sadness of selling the 1991 to buy a 2015 because I felt guilty about making my wife drive around in a car with no air bags. That 1991 is still running fine with it’s new owner.

    True fact.

Also, sienna has more payload than Tacoma. So in conclusion minivan engine>truck engine.

It makes a lot of the 2G guys squirm when they realize Toyota did us a solid when they gave us a minivan-duty engine for our 3Gs. It’s only one notch below nuclear reactor duty.

Truck motors / schmuck motors. Minivan engines are beast mode!

    It’s just facts.

Y,know the funny thing is that I drove the Dempster highway to the Arctic Ocean a couple years ago. There’s an endless stream of Europeans in these totally stupid 6x6 ex-military bloated campers, a bunch of people like me and my daughter in our Taco, and some others in full-size 4x4 campers, but the locals were all driving minivans.

Everyone is getting all “prepped” for the Dempster, and making sure their traction boards are tied-down and they have an extra two barrels of fuel for their Earth Roamer or Unimog, and then 8 locals go by you in a 1994 Ford Aerostar on P-metric radials at 200km/hr.

It’s because they know that minivan-duty engine will get then through.

    Lol.

I live 12 miles in off a BLM road and see an endless stream of overly equipped 4x4s rumble by on roads my neighbor easily clears in his Mazda 626.

Then there’s the guys in 18 wheelers who give zeeeeeero fucks

I helped a local change a tire up there, just another crossover suv.

The funny part to me is that the people who over prepare by bringing a bunch of extra crap often only make things worse for themselves by overloading.

There a ridiculous YouTube channel with a dude and some bimbo running around in some bloated military jumbo-truck. I watched the episode where they turned onto the Dempster but then only drove as far as the Arctic circle because they couldn’t store enough fuel to get to Inuvik. Sooooo dumb.

You just perfectly described the instagram taco owners lmao
    __________
I swear I've never seen so much contempt for a new gen as I've seen for the 3rd Gen Taco. 1st and 2nd gen owners are always crapping on it. You think they'd be out there driving their perfect trucks, instead of complaining about the "turd gen taco".

Idk what OP drives but he's obviously drank the "turd gen sucks" kool-aid.

Obligatory, not saying every 1st and 2nd gen owner does this. But hey, if the shoe fits, wear it.

Ford Aerostar… So my work partner had 90 green long edition Aerostar with that awesome pushrod 4.0. Man, we loaded that thing heavy on daily basis, lots of stop and go traffic, it had a hard life you know. You could not kill that thing, definitely one of the most reliable vehicles I’ve ever been in. It ripped pretty good too, awesome van.

IMO Ford was excellent pre 2005 or so, they still make great v8s but eco boost engines no thanks.

    Devil’s advocate post here:

I work for a company that is 100% Ford all day long. My service truck for the last 30 years in the electrical industry has always been a Ford of some flavour, including an Aerostar, many Rangers, F250’s and F150’s and honestly, I’ve never had a single one of them let me down or leave me stranded. I’m a Toyota guy in my personal life, but I give Ford credit. The boosted F150’s drive awesome, and fully laden get about the same MPG as my empty Taco on 32’s.

Ford was smart to go with the aluminum bodies and to perfect the turbo. Toyota could learn a thing or two from Ford.
