It's advisable. And while I'm not qualified to argue your opinion to the nth degree, I can say that ANYTHING you do to change the factory specs will affect things in the long or short term and will have a result. These trucks come from the factory after thousands of hours of testing. I respect your point of view.

I think I would even hesitate to get an alignment after adding wheel spacers, even if I had one of those lifetime alignment deals (free alignments). Like was said earlier, if your alignment changes from adding wheel spacers, your bushings or other components are probably worn out and should be replaced, at which point an alignment would be recommended after the work anyway.

But just for adding wheel spacers, I can't see it making much of a difference. Yeah, you're changing the torsional loads on the ball joints and bearings, but I doubt that would cause your alignment to go out of spec (assuming it was properly aligned in the first place).

While I typically would defer to the engineers at Toyota for certain things, remember: they're the ones that designed the 1st gen lower balljoints that can wear prematurely and fail catastrophically, and didn't properly account for frame rust issues, so they are by no means perfect... Plus, when we modify our trucks, we kind of toss out the window the engineers' intentions.
