I would think you could get 535 out of the 4.0.

There's a guy over on customtacos that has a twin turbo 2jz in his 4x4 98 making similar power.

You probably could get 500+hp out of the 4.0 but it would be really expensive, since i don't think anyone makes the parts for it, and even then you wouldn't know how long it would last, since it hasn't been done very often. with the 2jz there aren't really any unknowns. The parts are abundant, the knowledge is out there, and everyone knows it has the strength to handle the power.

That's pretty tight but that is a horrible video. Really a pointless video. They could've at least showed the dyno sheet or dyno it in 4wd

It would be a lot cheaper actually.

Fab Turbo Mount just behind the y-pipe, fab IC piping, $200 ebay IC, injectors, tune, big ass precision turbo.

Even if you plop the block it would still be cheaper.

Different strokes for different folks. Some would argue the ring you got for your girl was "money wasted that could go towards other things".
The 2JZ is one of the most impressive and stout motors Toyota ever came out with and the tuning aftermarket is endless. Much more so than the 1GRFE that's for sure. And without knowing the history of who built it, what happened to the old motor, how they aquired the 2JZ or any of the other history, saying it's a waste of money is kinda near sighted.

So is it a race truck or an off road truck?

Not on stock internals, and if you did hit that power level, it wouldn't last.

You could hit that power level on the stock motor, thats pretty much it's limit, and how safe it would be over a long period of time would be anyones guess. You can hit close to 500 if not right at 500 with URD's MKIII set up. With proper upkeep, you can roll in the mid 450's all day long though.

Only down side to the 2jz swap would be the added weight. Other than that you are spot on.
If you are going to spend the money on a custom turbo kit, don't cheap out on the kit with a ebay IC. My custom kit cost 6k, all quality parts, will support 700+ hp. You get what you pay for.

This, it's all about what the owner wants out of their truck.

Be tons cheaper to build the 4.0. And you'll get more torque and a better low/mid range power band :notsure:
