Thank you man. That was my first real big project but it was way over my head at the time years ago. Ended up selling it and the buyer drove it the near 200 miles home without issue. That had to be more exciting to me than anything else haha.

You can also look at Willwood or other brake companies that sell master cylinders designed to be used without boosters. Those may be a smaller bore to give you more PSI but with more stroke maybe? Surely someone else will have more or better info than me on that... Just tossing a couple options out there that may make it easier/better given the case.

I wouldn't believe a new pump would be totally necessary for a hydro boost unit. Isn't like they suck a ton of juice or anything for the small piston movement. Pressure is one thing and volume is another. Just kind of depends on the system you're running. Probably wasn't necessary for me to change the pump, but I did anyways as I found a good deal on one. Also, on the Lexus pump I had, the pump had a solenoid that controlled the flow which I didn't want to deal with.

Well after looking at the picture, I'm almost positive that'll fix my issue. Plus I got buddies with tons of parts Chevys. I'm sure I can find one for free!

is the 2j really a good swap for a tacoma? my 3.4 turbo makes torque like a diesel its great. i was planning an ls swap if i ever blew it up but a 2j sounds neat. not sure about the power down low on them though

Its probably more money to put a 2jz in then a LS. But 2j’s are freakin sweet sounding motors. The inline cylinders make really good torque. But mine ain’t done and I have never drove a 3.4 that was turbocharged. My brother is talking about turbocharging his 3.4. But he wants to drive mine before he spends the money on the kit. I am probably over 7 grand in my swap already.

I just pulled out my old wire harness. I have a stand alone harness and computer coming from Haltec. Tell me what you think about it. I personally love it. But I will try to find vvti gte valve covers later onupload_2021-5-14_21-16-55.jpgupload_2021-5-14_21-16-55.jpgupload_2021-5-14_21-16-55.jpg

My Haltec EMU and stand alone wiring harness got here today. It’s getting really close to being done.

I don’t know if anyone can help me with this. But I am wondering if anyone knows if theres a way to extend my A/C lines. My a/c pump is on the other side of the motor from original. If anyone has any suggestions. I would really appreciate it

Absolutely- It is literally the same concept as hydraulic lines, which I deal with in the heavy equipment industry.

Without cutting into the hose end that mounts to the pump or screws down, cut the ferrule off and slice down the hose with a razor to remove it. Take the end to a hose shop that has hoses for R134 and have them crimp them on or you can do it yourself if you buy the tool (but its a total bitch).

I took it to the local auto parts store. They do Hydraulic lines. But the tood it takes a special hose for A/C. And they could help me out.

If low end torque is what you are after I'd stick with the 5vz. If you want to go fast then 2jz. I'm sure you could build a fast 5vz but there's going to be tons more aftermarket to do that with a 2jz.

I want a truck I can daily drive with no problems then I can rock crawl and take to the dunes occasionally. I really love the 2jz. To be honest when I hurt my 5vz I said that motor was to boring and I was going to put anything in there besides the 5vz. I like the 5vz but it’s just so slow and boring. I looked into putting a Mercedes 5 cylinder diesel but that motor is slow to. I was thinking LS or 4bt cummins. I ended up going with this. I don’t think I will regret it.

My buddy Clinton, aka @dirt_garage is doing a 1uz in his 89. I'm excited to go for a spin. Mine with the s/c, and the 4.88's is a blast to drive. I just got a set of TRD headers and exhaust to add to the truck, not really cause I want more power, but because hey, TRD!! right? But if his is much better than mine, it might be getting a swap at some point. I'm stoked to see how yours comes along!

I mean a 2jz is pretty boring NA also. Not nocking your choice I just think the way the 5vz cams are you'll get better low end performance compared to the 2jz. Of those swap options I think you made a good choice. The 4bt is way too heavy for these trucks. TDI or the 2.8 Cummins would be the only diesel options I'd consider.

I look forward to following along with your progress!

I want to drive a 1uz swaped truck at some point. It’s probably a really really way to put horse power in a truck. I was trying to talk my brother into doing a 1uz in his 96 tacoma.

A couple of my brothers are heading to moab this weekend. I have never really been there. We want to try a few trails. If anyone knows good spot to go there let me know. It’s to bad my truck ain’t done yet. It’s so close though. I put my bumper on my brothers truck. upload_2021-5-26_21-58-22.jpgupload_2021-5-26_21-58-22.jpg
It’s looks sweet. I am waiting on a few more parts for my truck. But she is all but done. I got a 3” stainless steel exhaust for it. I will run a ultra quiet muffler with a electric y pipe cut out. upload_2021-5-26_22-1-41.jpg
I’m really excited to see it get done. It’s been a dream for a long time.

I am just giving you all a update on my build. I have almost every now to finish it. I will make a list of everything when I am done and cost of the swap. Thanks for all that are watching this build. upload_2021-6-5_21-1-53.jpg
I just put head studs in. A new timing belt. I have all the new fueling from Radium. I will try to have most of it installed soon. I am putting a high flow pump in the tank. I have Haltec Elite 2000 stand alone computer and harness. It’s almost just a matter of putting it together. My tuner is headed of to Rocky Mountain race week this weekend. So hopefully when he is back I will have it ready. You should check his 4Runner out on YouTube. His buddy has s channel there @ Hook937. He has a couple videos there. And he should have more in a week or so. My goal is to have it running in about 3 weeks at the most.

I started this Swap with no knowledge what the hell I was getting into. I just hit 10 grand into the swap. I was thinking before I could have it in and drive with about 5 grand. I was so wrong. But I will be pretty happy with it.

5k?? Maybe if you chose a SR20. No way with a 2J. Looks good though.
