Oh yeah I forgot. Never stop at rest areas, EVER!!! Always find an exit with a gas station or fast food resturaunt to stop for a bathroom break.

x2. Austin rocks so much. If I had to move anywhere from Phoenix, Austin would be #1 on my list. Hot chicks everywhere, great food, great music, great bars, always stuff going on, Hot chicks....

Did I mention the hot chicks?

Yup, it works, just don't put too much on and use a towel to spread it out thin. Other wise it gets on the windshield and makes it hard to see.... LOL did that too

At least he knows he doesn't know how to change his oil. We don't need a million Krazie's treadin' around here..... just a couple to keep us entertained!

Out of curiosity, why do you say not to stop at rest areas? Safety concerns?

I dunno I've stopped at plenty of them and never had issues. Hell in cali they usually have a highway patrol there in late nights.

I will say I'd avoid using the toilets for anything other than a wiz though.

Check out the laws in each state. I know in Virginia you can't have a radar detector, so be sure to take it down if you have one.

When I went on a 500 mile trip from NH to NY I was driving around 60-65 the whole way and got 22MPG with my 6sp, the 10MPH slower speed makes a huge difference, and handling is much better.

I stopped at quite a few in MA and CT without any issues.

I guess I should have said at night. During the day if your just stopping to take a leak or whatever no problem. But they are not good places to be at night. Lots of freaks and predators lurk in those places.

The truck drivers call them pickle parks. If you have a CB when you pull into most of them there are guys offering you and asking you for things you dont want any part of. Unless your into that then to each his own. But personally I would rather sleep on an exit ramp or a McDonalds parking lot than to stop in a pickle park at night.

Haha, that's what I kinda figured. Heard similar stories form certain city parks back home. Must be worse in some areas than others though. I've stayed at the rest stops a time or two along the #3 between Calgary AB, and Vancouver BC and saw nothing but the stars.

thanks guys for all the tips. I'll do my best to survive I-35. I'll be a FE on LC-130H's, same plane I was a crew chief on.

on the way to from CO to OH all I had in the bed was my mountain bike, a jug with a few gallons of water and 100lbs of sand left over from the winter.

for the ride home i picked up my old TV. its about a 36" CRT Sony and weighs 231 lbs. the ride home was noticabe with the weight in the back. it was a bit more stable in the wind.

Leaving Monday the 8th ..early. My best friend decided I should have a co-pilot so I am no longer going it alone. Our plan is to make it to Corpus Christi by late late tuesday night/Wednesday morning to spend the day on the beach soaking up the rays. This is going to be a non-stop (except to pee, and gas) b-line straight to Texas. Anyone with any area intel on the beaches near Corpus Christi let me know the best places to go and hang. Since we are planning on getting there early we are gonna hit Corpus Christi first to relax, then shoot back up I-37 to San Antonio for the night, probably grab dinner down on the river walk, hear there is a good rib joint there. My buddy is flying out early Thursday (0600) and I start classes on Friday (0700).

Ahh - This is gonna be a good road trip!

Don't know much about Corpus Christie, but what area of Upstate are you in? Chances are, I'm not far from you. I'm just east of Roch.

BTW for the road trip, if you aren't already, familiarize yourself with how to change your tire, where to find your jack and tools and where to place your jack to properly and safely change a tire. If all else fails, read your owners manual. You'd be surprised how many folks don't know how to do this and would rather call AAA.

Also, get yourself a big bag of sunflower seeds and a big cup. And bring your camera!
