I’ve been trying to get a little get together in the Tucson area going for a while. Let’s see if we can coordinate an evening get together and we can review your setup. Does evening work for you?

The campsite listed above a few posts is going to be where I’m going to camp Friday night after work. Then from there we will head up the AZBDR towards Young, AZ.

It sounds like some others { @chrslefty @Phessor @MR E30 } may be starting on Thursday morning at or near the Mexico Border.

I’m pretty free to meet up with you before hand and look over the route and your rig if you want to.

Yea I also want to start at the beginning Thursday morning as I missed the first part last year. I think we can make it to the campsite by Friday night.

I am still set on a Thursday morning start, deeper south, before meeting on Friday with the larger group.

I live in Flagstaff, so joining for brunch to discuss the route isn't possible. And to be honest, I suck at route planning, as most of my trips are done with general destinations and routes in mind, so I wouldn't be overly helpful anyways.

I also don't have any gps devices, or the know-how to follow tracks on my phone. Happy to help out with firewood or snacks or whatever, but I am not a savvy trail guide by any means.

I just need to know where to meet Thursday morning so I can plan how early I need to start driving down to the start point.

Yes we will pass right through Globe, ideally some time Saturday afternoon. Here’s a screen shot with some notes of the route in that area.

After a quick review on the AZBDR website I think we can make it from the official start of the AZBDR down near Mexico to the approx. midway point of the AZ4 where the pinned campsite is located. Total travel looks like ~220 miles, with 70 of those miles being fast travel. If we drive only 6 hours per day Thursday and Friday we only need to maintain an average speed of ~19 mph to make it. Sound doable?

Knowing this, I would definitely like to start the Thursday trip all the way south, just to do it.

Yea we got to the campsite in two days last time. Last time we met at Montezuma Pass to start. How about we meet there Thursday? 9am work for people who are starting Thursday?

With plan to leave from Benson Friday morning with Phessor and to arrive at the marked campsite by Friday evening.

Yes you can absolutely make it from the official start at Montezuma Pass to that marked camp in two days at a moderate travel speed. Make sure to stop and take lots of pictures. It’s beautiful out there.

That sounds great. Thursday February 27th at 9 am at Montezuma Pass (3.4 miles from Coronado National Memorial according to Google Maps).

Whenever we get the list together of everyone who is starting on Thursday I will create a group message to share phone numbers so we can all link up successfully.

    Excited!

Here’s our track from the official start to Benson. The marked site “Year 1 Camp 1” is where @Phessor @xtremewlr and I camped at the end of day one. From there you could easily get to Benson in an hour or two.

sounds like the list of Thursday starters is
    @Sapnjack @MR E30 @chrslefty

I’ll edit this if anyone else wants to commit to starting Thursday.

I can share this GAIA file if any of you want the track.

I'll take the GAIA file. I reckon I need the GAIA app? If I do, will the free version handle this track file?

    Thanks.
