    they come free with the tree permit. Or free when you walk in the ranger station and ask for one.

    Our service provider didn't provide service up so we couldn't get GPS coordinates but we still found you.

    This was an attempt at sarcasm...

    I was up in the area on my own little tree hunt the same time you guys were. Coincidence. I have the "Free" map as well.

    Both my iPad mounted on my dash and iPhone get GPS when out of service (iPad has a data plan). I used to use a Dual bluetooth GPS, but no longer need it with the latest iPads and iPhones. Should be the same for the newer droid devices also.

    @jAndyMendo What mount do you have for your iPad. I was checking it out - looked great! Think im going to mount the iPad Mini the same way for my gps/maps :thumbsup:

    Was jealous over your setup dude! Everything looked well planned and thought out!

    @stroM- Thanks!

    Its a Tallon classic mount (tried to go mini mount, but talked to one of their guys and he said for wheeling the classic would be better), mounted in the dash opposite the 4WD switch but similar look (super easy, didn't need to take any of the dash off). From there it is a RAM ball mount. I tried a few other mounts (RAM on the seat bolt, RAM in the cupholder) but stumbled onto Tallon and all their solutions when those other options just weren't cutting it. I am going to be doing a iPhone mount in one of the switch banks with a dual USB in the other once I put in the Genesis Offroad dual battery setup.

    I have been having some ipad mini issues with GAIA app, but they promise they will be gone with the next update. That is my map recommendation (I can drive and backpack switching devices and have everything and the pics on the same route), but I may be changing that if they can't get my issues fixed soon, Motion X may get a test. Oh and I use Google Maps while in cell service, no point in not using the best when you can.

    Still making design tweaks and have a few duplicate items that need to be sold in the garage and a long list of wants. Its a bit overkill for the overnighter, but becomes very comfortable on the longer trips. Its design is all about "time to beer" ;)

    Thanks for the info! Does the GAIA app work with a non data iPad? Just the Wifi version? Weighing my options here. :)

    I used to use the Gaia app with a non-data ipad and a Dual bluetooth XGPS150 GPS. But the GPS on the latest devices were enough to keep my Dual in my gear bag. And having data on my iPad while traveling has been really nice (family plan).

    Good to know. I just got a mount for my iPad mini wifi and was just starting to look up GPS receivers. I'll take a look at the XGPS150

    I've been using the same setup for years, it's proven itself pretty useful.

    Just a note to new users of gaiagps, be aware of your surroundings, wherever you go, power does tend to run out on phones fast when there's no cell service, so folks getting into gaiagps should know that it can be a powerhog w/o a bluetooth gps because you have to take the phone out of airplane mode to enable gps.

    I run my iPad mini in airplane mode and GPS still works (same with my iPhone 6). But I have a newer iPad, maybe that is your issue.
