So I just discovered my boots are torn again. One is completely torn the other has a hole.

I just had the axle and boots replaced last May for the same reason

I’ve got an Ebiach stage one lift on the third level with Spc uppers

how do the axle angles look? I haven’t noticed anyone else having issues with this lift setup

^You have aftermarket boots? Those can be shitty. With OEM boots, usually the crest of the fins wear out first.

^I'm asking because those don't look like OEM clamps.

Interesting I’ll be sure to mention that since they are trying to say I’m past the year warranty too

First Gen, but same OEM clamps. Those are not OEM and not what come in the parts kit.

"Pry open the small boot clamp, extend the boot down the axle shaft a little so the fins don't touch, secure with a hose clamp. See: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/my-cv-boot-mod.190669/"

I had to use this trick on wifey's Bimmer as the boots would chafe thru in no time. Works great!

General rule is if the fins touch, you have too much angle. They can rip anywhere.

Those are aftermarket CV axles, they don't articulate as well as OEM, and the boot's rubber tends to be softer and not last as long.

Go back to OEM axles with OEM boots.

Or better yet get some OEM axles with the high angled inner boot from CVJ axles in Denver. (Red)

Dobinson also makes a high angle inner and outer boot, they lasted about 50k on the driver's side and still holding strong on the pass side (60-70k) on my 4runner.

But I like the CVJ axles better because rebooting is just a pain in the butt. The red inner boot has a heavy duty rubber band that helps to separate the 1st two ribs on the boot, and the ribs stretch out further along the axle.

The boot mod slide works well for the inner boot, but in my experience it doesn't work well with the outer boot, it allowed grease to slider under the boot and leak out on both sides that I tried years ago.

BTW - Left and Right axles are the same. And all of the 2nd/3rd gen tacomas, 4th/5th gen 4runners, GX470 and GX460 have the same axles.

I am on the Eibach Stage 1 lift, they are set on the lowest setting I think 1.75". My drivers side boot tore also after 3000kms. Not sure if it is the angle or defective boot, was replaced.

The TRD lift that Toyota sells has a 1.75", wouldn't the boot tear in that scenario too?

If your lift really is in the 2 inch range I would say it sounds fishy too. I've had two trucks with an approximate 2 inch lift and never had any CV boot issues. My old GTI used to tear them to often, though.

You mentioned you're on the 3rd spring perch notch with Eibach Stage 1?
Without any added weight (bumpers, skids, etc), that's probably 3"+ of lift up front.

I'm wondering if the front is just lifted too high. For reference, I got nearly 2.75" of lift on notch 2 with the Eibach Stage 1, and I'm already worried about my CVs.

Thanks man! Dumb question, do you have a photo to reference the inner and outer boot you mentioned the mod did and didn’t work on?

I don't, I had switched both of my Tacoma axles to CVJ axles with the red high angle inner boot. There are some Tacoma world posts on it if you search though.
