While it sounds tempting, I'm currently waist deep in a microhydro electric project for an offgrid cabin... The best advice I can give is read and take the time to really understand the guys from trails less traveled.

    http://www.trailslesstraveled.com/articles/suspension/

You can see the link to clearing 35's on a tacoma but the link seems broken to me currently...

    http://www.trailslesstraveled.com/news.php?id=48

That link seems to work but it's for a 4runner but you get the idea. It's what inspired me to do the tubbing because it really makes sense when you read it. That and the people in this thread, especially VanCity4X who's truck I was able to see in person before I started the clearancing. These type of threads give you the extra confidence to take on projects like this knowing others have gone there before and most importantly what pit falls to avoid...

Sorry I couldn't come do this for you but hopefully your inspired enough to give it a try yourself if it's something you really want... Your truck is what you make of it...

Bolded what I was referring to.

lol I know you are screwing around. I don't care what you call them. I just am saying I don't think it matters. The work is the same.

Yeah that is what I am talking about also. Just like your picture except turned to the passenger side completely. I went up the obstical for about 15' in that same position and no noises that sounded like the firewall was being touched??? I will just consider myself lucky I guess.

    Edit: icon UCA's

So what have most of you done about the intake opening? I know a snorkel is an ideal solution, but was seeing what else is out there. Any other options? Currently I just have the intake tube disconnected undr the hood so its sucking hot engine air.

if you monitor your intake temps, i think you'll pe surprised at how little the temperature is affected by pulling from the fender well vs under the hood.

My biggest concern was no water in there. Thats why I unhooked it. Without the plastic liners in the fender it seems like it is just begging to drink some water off the tires during a heavy rain or puddle. I would eventually like a snorkel, just dont have 450 to drop on that right now.

I'm getting ready to do the same as Large has. Snorkel with a Fishbowl. I was in FL driving around. My intake/ filter was full of sand. Know how i knew? LOSS OF POWER. Hit the accelerator, and NOTHING! - Plus the CEL codes that were hitting.

I did the same. Unhooked the filter intake and let it suck the engine air. When I cleaned it out. there was a hand full or two of damp sand in it. That sealed the option of a snorkel for me.

nothing that'll change the performance or mileage. biggest temp change i saw was when i insulated the tube from the filter box tot he throttle body, and even then, it was only a few degrees. believe it or now, the coolest intake temps i ever had were about 5 years back, when i had the intake hooked up to my hood scoop for a little while. but again, nowhere near enough to make any kind of difference.

Thanks all. I think I will just leave it unhooked under the hood until I have enough coin to spring for a snorkel. Im running up to 130º when its like 90 something outside. Hope it gets better with the snorkel.

A small handful of select mods.
Cooler air is always good for the engine. Will it give you a kick in the seat boost, no. With my safari snokel under acceleration I can get the intake air to be nearly the same ( within a couple of degrees) as the outside air. At idle I see a 9° variance. But overall my engine is happy with me and the fresh, cool air.
