Yeah, the way I see it is if I grenade my 4.88s I would've more than likely blew up 4.56s too.. and I know plenty of guys running 5.29s in early 8in axles on bias ply 36s..

Well that just shows that the guys with 4.88's were taking it easy

IMO gearing is all a matter of personal preference there is no right or wrong...I've been running stock gears since 06' and since 07' with 35's and never had a problem. When I am in OD at 80mph ( which is the normal flow of traffic in SoCal ) I'm only at 1800rpm's. Sure it's slow around town but it's not a race car and with 12 mpg avg with this pos motor I'm not willing to lose anymore than that by running 2300-2500 RPM's on the highway ...I already have to carry a couple of jerry cans of fuel to make it to a couple of my fav spots...a 30 gal fuel cell is in my future

Agreed on personal preference. I want somewhat sane mpg when traveling but I also like to creepy crawl over boulders so for me re-gearing is a necessity to push low PSI rubber.

I couldn't dream of pushing 35s with stock gears in my 2.7 though..

I tried one cut with a dremel, threw it on the side, and busted out a jigsaw. Maybe I just suck with a dremel?

Did both the fenders and flares with a Dremel.

    Bunch of stuff
I used the Dremel to cut my plastic fenders and I used my angle grinder to cut the body panel.

Jig saw works great! what i did mine with.
4:10s for guys that DD highways speed or constant 80km/h+ or if you live in an area that doesnt have many hills.
If you DD in the city with avg speed at 60km/h and have allot of hills do 4.56s

I picked 4:10s and they r great. The 35s turn good but for wheeling i need a crawl box with a mt to really run technical stuff

I didn't attempt to use my angle grinder because I was envisioning Freddy Kreuger sliced and diced fenders. lol

For the average Joe a jigsaw with a metal blade is going to provide the most stable tool and the cleanest cut on the fender. You can also use a jig saw for the plastic flare, a good trick is to feather the trigger at a much slower speed or if you have a variable speed jig saw set it at half speed. The slower blade through the plastic flare will not heat up the blade and melt the plastic as you are cutting and it will produce a much cleaner cut.
