Same here did gears before tires. I wouldn't want to try my 35's with stock gears

It actually wasn't that bad with 315's and stock gears, had to change up my driving habits alittle to cut down on downshifting as much. Never wheeled with stock gears and 315's I can imagine it being alittle lacking to say the least though...

    Not a Stocko Taco.
315's with stock gears was all I wheeled with for a few years.....also with a friggen bro lift.....I wheeled the truck through everything and anything and it did pretty good even with a LSD.
Gearing with the tires didn't seem too bad at all. Now that I have 4.88 and 315 it feels like I have nice low gearing and better control off road. While on the road if I gear down to 4th its also noticeable for hill descents and slowing down a little with out using the ol brake pedal.

i hated 3.73s and 35s especially on 6spd once air'd down and loaded
i have 4:10s now and its a decent balance. Once i get a crawl box it will be perfect

Interesting statement, please elaborate when you get the time as a few of us are getting ready to invest in gearing right now.

Enough to make it a lot of fun!
Wish I could afford a regear and 35's right now. Would also like to hear more for future info. For when I finally take this task on.

well i drive a ton of highway or freeway type roads and thus exactly why i opted for the 4.10s. I have those red letter grabbers which are so heavy as well and the truck cruises along just fine but for my wheeling pleasures and saving my clutch a crawl box would be needed. Its by no means a speed daemon either

Probably because he has a crawl box and wants the higher final ratio for highway cruising. Us 6 speed guys have a low 6th gear, so were a little over geared with 4.56's. 4.56's are perfect for me because I'm probably not going to get a crawl box and I like the lower gearing in 4 lo.

What if he went with 40s and a solid axle up front?

Seriously though, i love to read about these FJ case swaps and the FJ ADD tube in @psuTaco85 build today. Just dont get this kind of advice all the time.

Keep it up, ill go get more popcorn.
