Want to know how I know? I rubbed with 35's without any flairs like a mad man, when I test fit my 35s. Granted I'm not on a full 3" lift, but that doesn't really make enough of a difference.

If you don't mind the relatively permanent modifications required, then you will love 35s. If you do I say go with 33's and save a lot of headache.

    Good luck!

Well maybe I can find 34's to help out a bit with everything instead of true 35's?

I can't believe you are tearing flares off just by driving on the road, that seems crazy.

I should probably mention that i am at a full 3" of lift and have the stock TRD Sport wheels. Of course as previously mentioned they have 1.25 spacers behind them.

Im not too worried about the body mount chop or any inner wheel-well trimming as that is something even some 33 people complain about.

I just purchased bora .75 wheel spacers, so hopefully that should stop the rub at full lock. My rims are 4.5 bs

I have 4.5 bs and 1" Bora's. I see a tiny shiny spot on frame but have never felt it. 3/4" should be just fine, might touch a little, not enough to care about

I pulled them off before I even tried driving with the 35's. I had 33s on and they were rubbing when I went off road so I pulled them off. They only rubbed a little bit on regular driving. At the time I had the TRD wheels which have good backspacing, so I didn't need wheel spacers. The further out you push your tires the more they will hit your firewall.

Maybe with 34's you will be good. Seems like you aren't too worried about it. Good luck and post pics if you make the switch.

Well I have been looking around at tires because I would prefer to go bigger than 33's and I need new tires soon.
I have found a great deal on 285's but those are only 33's as we know so if I decide against bigger that is what I will go with.
But I am thinking maybe 295's or 305's if I can find them or maybe 285/75/17 if I can find that. I wasn't aware of the 255/85/17 setup but that seems like it would be very skinny!

Regarding rubbing, I will trim where need be but like I said, I like the look of the flares and would not like to cut those at all.

What is the concensus on gearing? My fj buddy says I will absolutely destroy my transmission without regearing but I see plenty of people on this forum who dont seem to regear so are they destroying their tranny or is he just jealous and drinking the fj juice?

Toyo MT's come in a 285/75R17. That would be a great match. Its basically the same height as most 315's only a touch narrower.

I prefer the height over the width, would like to stay around the 275-285 width anyway so maybe that is the way to go!

I test fitted a 35 on stock Sport wheels with 1.25" wheel spacers. I was all over my UCAs! Running a 4.3BS wheel now, no spacer and just slightly rub the frame at full lock.

When I was on 35's, I kept the stock gearing. It works, but it is definitely not ideal. It was nice to get decent gas mileage on the long, flat highway trips through. If I had the funds and were to do it over again, I'd regear to 4.56 with the auto and 4.88 with the manual.

Regarding your transmission, you are going to be putting an additional strain on it with city driving. You could compare it to always towing a small trailer everywhere you go.

How close are you 35" guys from rubbing on your spindle gussets? I checked mine today and my 33's look pretty close.

Total Chaos gussets rub with 4.5+ backspacing.

Run 5" bs rims with 1.25 spacers. With no spacers wheel don't fit.
