damn autos have it easy...easier to wheel and they don't have as hard of a speedo dance that manuals have when regearing/tire changes

Incase anyone is trying to learn from the convo above. :anonymous:

    Notes taken:
    - Going to bigger tires throws off your speedo regardless of Manual or Auto.

    - Manuals speed is read from shaft speed

    - Autos are read from Wheel speed

    - Autos can regear easier because its all about wheel speed? MrGrimms suggestion MrGrimm's suggestion

    - Still not sure what the manual guys have to do. lol

    Did I miss anything?

The speedo goes by pulses per second. So if you can use that hypertech in an auto you can do it in a manual as well.

Just throw an "ish" at the end of speed or gas mileage and all your speedo problems are gone and its free.
I run 70ish on the freeway and get 12ish MPG. Done

This should be added to the cheap/free/easy mods thread for the speedo fix after putting on larger tires.

Hey guys I posted this in the mid travel and bs thread but I also wanted to put it here since I figured it applied. I need some advice, I just put on Built Right UCAs and now my tires (I have 285/70/17) rub the upper more than they did with the stock uppers. I have a set of king 2.5 coil overs that will add some lift but I haven't been able to put on yet and I wasn't sure if that would help with the rubbing. I currently have 17" method racing Fat Five wheels (came on truck, don't like them and want to replace them). The wheels have 0 offset and 4.75" of backspacing. If I go to a wheel with 4.5" of backspacing will that help clear the uppers? next question: Is there a benefit to running 16" wheels or 17" wheels or is it just personal preference? I am planning on going to 35's when my tires need to be replaced (hopefully they last till next year) so if I need to buy new wheels now I want something that will also work with the 35's clearance wise. Any help would be very appreciated.

    Check the build thread.
I haven't geared my truck yet - gears sitting in my garage waiting on the ARB lockers to come in to be installed - but with the 35's on and loaded up, keeping the speed around 70mph I am getting around 13-14mpg. Around town 15.5mpg. My speedo/odometer is off of course. Going off the mile markers my truck reads 1 mile at like 1.2 miles.

I am going with the 4.88 Nitro gears.

As for the clearance issue with 35's and 3" of lift..
I am currently at that same set up but I am running an All-Pro +2 long travel kit so clearance is a lot easier. I have had to hammer in some areas and trim others but nothing extreme.

17x8.5 Method Race Wheels 105 series Beadlocks 4.75" backspace

Just took this today for a guy wanting a side profile:

Testing the clearance - with the tires turned I will rub in a couple areas but wheels straight I am very satisfied.

Thanks that does help. I figured the lift wouldn't help with the uca. Are most people running 35s using spacers?

I had to use 3/4" spacers, I have total chaos ucas and XD addicts 4.5 back spacing with 315/70/17. They rubbed a little bit but now they clear.

thanks for the replies. I have nothing against the SCS rims, just not my style. I guess I will need to look into 3/4" wheel spacers then because the wheels I want are also 4.5" backspacing.
