    Isn't that this thread?

    >tap 12v souce
    >apply to camera with switch
    >???

basically just leave out the part where you connect it to the reverse wire:
so leave T1 or T3 off, whichever goes to the REV wire you cut.

Or in the event you run over someone you don't like, you can view it as the action unfolds. Then hit reverse again for instant replay. Lol.

Very glad I stumbled on this thread. As others have mentioned I tend to use the back up camera to try to avoid being a Dbag when parking and this saves having to back up after pulling through the spot. I am also planning to do the mod, found on TW, to be able to switch to a second camera so I can mount a camera on the back of my trailer.

The following was on my 2012 Access cab V6 SR5

I decided to use the empty switch location next to the traction control button.
    IMG_20151205_115102205_zpsdtcymuur_c02b1fa97b8251a9baeb517ce9f72ece0357010d.jpg

I wanted a large size rocker and found this switch on Amazon for cheap. The downside to this specific switch is that it is a On-Off-On switch. This means that there is a center position that does not make contact with either terminal. All this means is that if I forget to throw the switch fully, two clicks, in either direction then the camera will just stay off. Here is a link to the specific switch I bought for <$4
    IMG_20151205_122254555_zpsbpoqftdt_312588a5003b339f35fd3439ea795ca06240887f.jpg

I bought a 5 pack of the Add-a-circuits off Amazon also

I picked up a pack of quick disconnect terminals from the local RadioShack. I chose the 1/4" size terminals so that they would connect to the back of the switch.
    RadioShack® 1/4" Quick Disconnects (Item#: 6403133)

This shows how I had planned to wire up the switch (how I did in the end)
    IMG_20151205_122630580b_zpsta0ykdq2_f64607b2eef3681ddb42a3295f34e718b997c570.jpg

The empty socket that I wanted to use was a little narrow so I had to use a razor blade to CAREFULLY remove some of the side plastic. I forgot to take a picture of the hole after I trimmed, but it was just wide enough to get the switch through. I did NOT alter the top or bottom, that dimension was good.
    IMG_20151205_152042918c_zpsuplnsc3v_1b3427a8a541f9c870c0c3f8f84532c03b35c7ae.jpg

I choose the ACC fuse to use for my Add-a-Circuit. You can also see the my IN1 connectors has many wires running through it.
    IMG_20151205_145107766b_zps5wqpjwru_73a604e12dbce157756e8204564c5b2d10ca2a67.jpg

There were two red wires in my IN1 connector. I used a multimeter to find that one had a constant 12VDC and the other, the one pointed out in this picture, only had 12VDC present when the truck is in Reverse.
    IMG_20151205_154716978b_zps8syuqxod_3bfa8eacc34b09d8f076ae25d4627efa01354470.jpg

I used a male terminal on the side of the wire that goes back to the camera, and the female terminal on the wire that provides the REVERSE signal. This way I could remove the switch to return the setup to factory settings. The other thing to note is that using the 1/4" terminals means that the crimp area is very large, I folded the stripped wire back over the insulation to make the wire that is being crimped down large enough to grab
    IMG_20151205_160226789_zpso9oaemg6_0bd5f827b587106ca9cfbd2f5a3bdcc8a01ce210.jpg

This shows the wiring all installed, I used wires that were a bit long so they are coiled up behind the connected terminals so that they don't interfere with the coin tray.

And this is the switch after completed.

I noticed there were posts here talking about not being sure if they could do this and stuff like that. I know that for some people it is easier to see the mod rather than read about it. After searching Youtube and finding no video for this mod I decided to compile the info here and what I learned into a DIY. I will post the link here when I get it uploaded.

So I have a question about this mod...

I just did this mod over the weekend. I wired things a little differently but same general idea. The only issues is my reverse lights come on and the truck seems to think its in reverse. Any thoughts?

I found the problem. I was clearly tired when I did the wiring. So I have a different switch and Im trying to figure out how to wire it correctly. I have a OTRATTW Contra IV Rear Camera switch. Only has +12 coming out. Suggestions on how to tweak the install?

Do you have any pictures of the back of the switch? There is no Contura IV listed on their website, but I am guessing that like most illuminated switch, it has three prongs, two are your through contacts and the third is your power for the LED illumination

If this switch is like this diagram http://www.otrattw.com/J66a.pdf then I don't think it will work for this application. That is a simple on-off switch. That means that only one position will give you the signal throughout. You need an On-On switch, so that you either have the standard signal, or the forced 12vdc signal.
