I have a 2005 Double cab and I want to paint the chassis but i do not want to do a roll on bed liner coating. I want to be able to remove some of the surface rust with a wire wheel and then spray a coating on.

    What should I use?

por 15 would be your best bet. Once you open it you need to finish the can though it dries super fast a couple days later can will be solid.

O and BTW it is expesnive $$$ but it works better than almost anything on the market the only thing better would be to bead blast the frame and powder coat it

So, do you use a roller or a brush to put the por15 on? Does it dry with a glossy or flat finish? I don't want the chassis to look glossier than my faded truck.

I'm going the Fluid Film route. Was 50/50 on POR 15 and Fluid Film. If you're already experiencing a fair amount of rust and the old paint is gone or all chipped off, POR15 might be a better solution. My frame is showing signs of rust but not flaking so I think Fluid Film will work just fine and it has a lot of other uses as well.

Anthony or... Turd Ferguson, if you use POR 15, would 1 gallon be enough for the whole frame?

Powder coating actually wouldn't be very good. It is brittle and will crack with frame flex.

Best choice would be to strip, GALVANIZE, then dip several cycles in a huge vat of por15, finally a surface coat. I think if you did that, you could park the thing half under salt water and come back in 50 years, frame should still be sitting there like new, though everything else would probably be long gone.

Meh, galvanizing isn't that great for heavy salt. There are better coatings which actually embed themselves into the steel and can not be removed, not even by grinding. They use those coatings on steel piles near the coast. It's nasty stuff though and creates a cyanide-like gas when you try to weld to it or grind it off (grinding because of the heat). It's a product made by Tnemic. It's pretty good stuff :D

Looks good Saskamoose. Where is the best place to buy POR15? Anyplace cheaper than the other?

Has anyone used a spray paint? The rust on my truck isnt bad so i am mainly looking for a facelift of the paint...

    Hey OP,

Check out www.por15.com, there is a Canadian distributor as well if you're a northman like me. www.canada-por15.com. I hear some NAPA stores stock it as well. I dunno about cosmetic spraypaint man, the undercarriage takes a lot of abuse I don't think any rattlecan stuff would hold up. POR15 dries as hard as a rock so it lasts + you will be preventing the inevitable rust.

I've used eastwood paint on my truck frame. once a year I'll wire brush the rusty areas and do touch up . it's good stuff and holds up well.
