    Short answer, Yes. Anytime you work on or near an airbag, it's best to unplug the battery. Waiting 15 min ensures the reserve power of the airbag controller is depleted.
    Long answer... You would have to screw something up to make it deploy. Touching power to one of the airbag's leads, static discharge, for example. It's kind of like inflating a tire, or seating a bead... Odds are, it won't come off the rim and kill you, but do you really want to stand in front of it and take that chance?

    They can kill you if they deploy while stationary and you are working near them. If you remove it, to work on the column, place it connection side up, far away from your work area and any stray voltage sources.

    To clarify, I unplugged the battery. I just did not wait 15 minutes...I didn't see that in the write up.

Flowmaster cat back exhaust, a cracked tail light that I fixed with some tape, all black grille, 15” Raceline 401B wheels, Goodyear 235/75/15 All Terrain Tires
    It's pretty flat round these parts. Only issue will be grapevine when going north I5
