2nd gen flares on 1st gen?

Has anyone tried installing 2nd gen (05-14) flares on a 1st gen (95.5-04) Tacoma? Will they fit and, if so, any/how much modification is needed?

Also, can anyone tell me how much distance do the stock 1st or 2nd gen flares overlap the fender?

My Tacoma (96) is currently flareless. However, I have rear fender rust-through :pout: (at the top of the fender lip) that I will be repairing, and I plan to install flares to help cover the shoddy body work that's likely to result from my repair. Or I may just give my fenders a shave, sufficient to remove the rust, and slap on flares.

I've also consider using Pacer Flexy Flares, but I'm not to crazy about their look.

    TIA for any help/advice.

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
Lots of modifications would be needed to make them fit, the way the wheel wells are shaped is completely different from a 2nd gen. Be best just to get first gen flares, see the ones on my truck.

Thanks Jon for the info. Any idea how much distance your flares overlap the metal of your fenders?

P.S. Nice looking truck. I've always liked and wanted double cab like yours!

Can't say for sure on that. Will check the next time I go out.

Whats the reason for the 2nd gen flares over the 1st gens? More coverage? I'd shave them and run some 37s

Yeah I thought the 2nd gen flares might give more coverage ... I like the beefy look of the 2nd gen flares ... and I had found a good deal on a full set.

But as Jon said, the 2nd gen wheel wells look to be shaped differently than 1st gen. I think the 2nd gen flares are also likely to present a problem at the fuel filler door cutout too.

It looks like sticking with 1st gen flares is the only way to go.

Thanks guys for helping me cogitate this through!

I love your hatred of the second gen! Haha... I'm right there with ya! The Tacoma name should have retired in '04. Yota needed to give the new ones a different name, they aren't Tacoma's in my eyes. You know when they make a sequel to a good movie and it just sucks ass? Well this is the case here and this is also what I refer to them as "sequel's"

    Rant over....

Westin lights, Westin Light bar holder, New front bumper, Custom floor matts, Steering wheel cover, board in bed to keep groceries from rolling around, new radio, New flat bed cover.
I would first bondo the fenders to get rid of the rust then I would add the flairs (just me though)
Also I would go with 1st gen because 2nd gens are styled a bit differently and therefore the flairs would be different. As a result It Might look weird

So your basically saying the only real trucks Toyota makes are the Tundra and 2nd Gen Tacoma. Makes alot of sense because the Hilux with a 3.0 diesel isn't a real truck, nor is a old 22RE pickup, or a first gen Tacoma for that matter. Real truck have manual shift transfer cases and steel beds. Not the plastic shit or turn button dial but what ever floats your boat.

To the OP just find a set f 1st gen flares, the 2nd gen flares would require way to much work. They have a oddly shaped wheel arch that does not match the 1st gen what so ever.
