IMO you should use the solid plates if you are going to replace the OE X member. then you have a nice flate solid one piece surface to work off of

I think windowed would be ideal for the salt encrusted winter roads of NorthEast. Need drainage. I could be wrong though...

    Ok.
I lived and worked in San Diego for 11 years.
I wish I didn't sell my house a long time ago.

I'm working in my truck right now. Can't take the time to look at all of this until later. Looks like I'd probablybe in for a windowed set. Don't use the factory tire carrier anymore anyway.

I went back and forth on the windowed vs. solid plate design. Ultimately I decided on the solid and had Jeff work around the factory x-member, hence the 3-piece design. I wanted to retain the ability to put a tire down there without additional cost or hassle.

I tend to agree with @Evenflow , that if the plan is to cut out remove the factory x-member, having a solid canvas to burn a new one in would be ideal.

I think if I lived in the NE section of the country, like Lloyd, or others, I would get the solid plates, cut out the factory x member, and weld shut the 2 or 3 small factory windowed holes on the outside of the frame rail to "enclose" the frame rails as much as possible.

Between the three of us, I don't think @stairgod, @HolyHandGrenade and myself have ten friends. LOL.

$120 delivered is not a lot to ask for, considering what you're getting in return, which is a custom made part for your truck, that no other vendor offers (that I'm aware of)! :D

    IMO, It's a great price!

I'll get the solid 3 piece because I want to retain my ability to use the spare tire carrier.
