I wouldn't go so far as to say that this is going to keep your frame from bending in the event of a rear-end collision, but this does stiffen your frame for everyday trail use and long-term abuse. As far as accidents go, I would not consider this at all to be a preventive measure in that aspect.

Is there a problem @HomerTaco ? If so, perhaps there's a friendly p.m. in order unless it's easier to tag a moderator and have them contact me with any questions concerns or issues.

Icon MT suspension, Pelfreybuilt front bumper, Relentless skids, Avid sliders, Avid custom rack. Pelfreybilt HC Rear bumper.
I am about to swap out my tired factory rear leaf springs with an OME Dakar set, do a U-bolt flip kit, and install extended Fox Shocks. I figure I will pull the bed off and stiffen up the whole rear with these frame boxing plates.

I have not looked under the truck to determine if I have to pull off the rear high clearance bumper. Do you think the bed can come off without pulling the rear bumper? It has tire swing out and is heavy so I would leave it if I can.

Should be able to pull the bed without pulling the bumper easily

Nice - I know this is like the dreaded "subbed" but I like this a lot.

And with regards to crashes, calculated weakness is key. Plating your frame is for those that want strength and don't want as many cracks in their body panels :).

Strength is good for wheeling. Weakness is good for crash tests. Look at the weak bumper mounts, thin sheet metal, crack-prone 'crumple zones, etc., as evidence the truck was designed and built for crash test results and low cost to manufacture. Look at reinforcements like this if you are trying to build something that can take a relative beating. :)

You have my attention! Have these been installed on any trucks? It'd be nice to see them on a truck.

This is an awesome idea, isn't it stronger if you stitch weld INstead on straight up welding the whole seam?

    Deff. Interested!

Stronger ? No, not necessarily, but anything is stronger than the stock open channel.
