2nd gen frame box plate kit

I like that idea!! Able to send to Hawaii, and is it the windowed version?

 

Wont need the windowed version since youre able to get around the side of the plates where they meet the crossmember. @Crom has some pics of the install on his truck.

 

But wouldn't that leave the tin foil crossmember as a weak point still?

 

It all depends on what you are doing with the truck. A lot of guys like the idea of keeping the rear crossmember as well as the rear spare tire under the bed. Adding some Shock Hoops or a high-clearance rear bumper however would be some reasons why you would want to beef up the rear frame. As well as the Overland guys that like to Keri a good amount of weight .Just give the option of keeping the rear crossmember.

 

Ahhhh true true. I'm already thinking in cutting mine out to put some under bed storage in place and putting like 2 horizontal bars around it, and an onboard water tank

 

Do it. I've always liked the area under the bed back there for either storage or fresh water.

 

I think I'd lean towards full length windowed version, and replacing tire carrier crossmember with something more substantial in triangulation. Extra weight of high clearance with swingout can't be kind on the frame

 

I'm debating on new crossmembers, or a custom aluminum triangle tank to fit along the existing ones. Leaning towards a new crossmember so I fit something like a 20 gallon plastic water tank under there with a hefty skid under it. Moving slowly towards more of an Expo LT build

 

Good thing you've got some extra ummff with that supercharger under your hood. 20gals of water is definitely some weight.

 

166 pounds. Plus the tank you're going to be just over 200 pounds. Not bad.

 

Yeah we'll see, I need to crawl up underneath and take some measurements to see exactly how much room Ive got under there for what. Might be able to just fit a 10 gallon under there and that'll be good for a few showers here and there

 

And yeah, the SC definitely helps, new axle with some lockers and 4.56 gears are gonna help even more in the next few months

I have a first gen in the shop that I'm going to be drawing some plates for.

 

This is on my list of things that I should do sometime.

I am an opportunist, and having the rear end exposed, I again tapped Jeff @jeffz0rz , Owner and Operator of JTA Metal Works in El Cajon for help.

He offers CNC cut frame plates for 2nd gen trucks. Here is the discussion thread on it.

Here is the description:

I needed to retain the stock spare tire carrier cross member, and the bed had to stay on the for the work. I meticulously cleaned the frame, and removed my air-line, and all the frame wiring harness clips in advance, to get everything out of Jeff's way.

Jeff divided the plates into 3rds and burned them in. Jeff did a great job welding and painting. Any over-spray paint you seen in the photos is mine."

The new three piece frame boxing plate kit installed. No need to cut or remove anything to install these plates.
