On Saturday evening I took my girl to the movies and parked my 2011 TRD across from her place. It was raining pretty hard and when we got back there was glass and plastic strewn across the street. My rear driver’s side wheel was shoved forward into the wheel well and the truck had been pushed up over the curb.

Turns out a guy in a Nissan Altima lost control, skidded into the rear of my truck (just where the bumper meets the body) and when his car met my tire he flipped up and over and ended upside down in the middle of the street. Luckily he was able to walk away and no one else was hurt.

The leaf springs are broken and I’m pretty sure the frame is bent. I spent the last two days salvaging things I could and removed the rear bumper. Current distance between the outside of the frame rails is exactly 37 inches.

Does anyone know what it should be?

I’ve looked around TW and have only found frame diagrams for 1st Gen models.

Took another measurement. The cross-body distance between the rear-most bolt holes on the frame is 883mm o.c.

if anyone has the frame diagrams for a 2011 2nd Gen Access Cab TRD I’d really appreciate it!

Frame is definitely bent. Measured from the centerline this time and left side is shorter than the right by about two inches

Yeah, he has State Farm and apparently they’ve assumed full liability, but I keep getting shuffled around when I call. And I honestly don’t trust them to get me into a shop that knows trucks well.

Posted in the NorCal forum requesting recommendations for body shops. Hope someone over there has an idea.

I used to do frame work/autobody. My initial reaction was you might be okay as the wheel/axle took the brunt of it and gave. Those numbers don't necessarily mean it is bent-I just built a flatbed for my 2015 and the truck is not symmetrical side to side depending on where you measure from. The frame dimensions are on line. I did find them (I removed the rear crossmember and reconfigured the rear of the frame on mine.) but I didn't save them, sorry. If you still want those numbers a quick Google search should get what you need.

Thanks @pearing, I still haven’t been able to find 2nd Gen frame diagrams or numbers online (either on TW or elsewhere). Maybe by googling skills aren’t up to snuff.
If you have keywords or sites to check I’m all ears!

    Try these:

Tacoma frame dimensions | Tacoma World

3rd gen DCSB complete frame dimension Drawings | Tacoma World

Look about ten pages in on this one:

Should get you pointed in the right direction

What are you using as centerline? The frame is tapered in the back as you probably found by now. There's also significant flexibility: All-Pro bumper instructions used to suggest pulling the frame rails together with ratchet straps, because they can spread after you remove the OEM tow hitch.

Yeah, the tow hitch was tight coming off - I assumed it was due to the damage. I realize it's not very precise, but I was using the hole where you feed the jack handle through the frame to drop the spare as a rough guide for the centerline.

The distance from the middle of that hole to the middle of the visible fasteners on the right frame rail is around 455mm. The distance from the middle of the hole to the middle of the visible fasteners on the _left_ frame rail is around 435mm.

The ~455mm distance matches one of the diagrams that @pearing pointed me towards (thanks for that!) so it seems like the left rail is at least partly deformed.

^I don't know if that hoist prop rod hole is supposed to be on center or not. However, the hole is on the bed structure, not on the frame. The mounting holes in the composite bed are quite large, and the bed can be off-center by 1/2" coming from the factory. If I'm understanding you correctly, you will need to find a more precise reference datum.

Makes sense, I knew I wasn't being very precise but didn't realize there was that much potential play in the bed. Thanks!

Tacoma frames are not that strong, so I would be surprised if it wasn't bent, but it does look like the leaf spring absorbed alot of it, but think about the forces involve to bend a leaf spring...

I'd also be asking for a rear axle assy if it was mine
