    (SOLVED?) Hey again!

Looking for 2nd Gen Double Cab Short bed Frame Specs/measurements as I think I have a minorly tweaked frame from where a previous owner had ran into a fence. Anyone have a DIY method to measure defects yourself? I’d imagine it will be super minor correcting 1degree of camber

The problem: Les Schwab tells me that at JBAs specified alignment specs when I’m at 4.5deg caster I am 1 degree off on camber no matter what they do (lagging back on the drivers side where the vehicle was hit by the fence)

    -Alignment 1: N/A – 1.5” spacer on 5100s, stock UCAs… seized LCA

    -Alignment 2: N/A – TRD 5100’s 2” lift, stock UCAs… seized LCA… Tech folded Alignment tabs incidentally

-Alignment 3: TRD 5100’s 2” lift, stock UCSs, straightened and welded alignment tabs, new greased alignment bolts (one side SPC one side NAPA greaseable…). This alignment concluded that they were having issues balancing caster/camber with stock UCSs

-Alignment 4: TRD 5100’s 2” lift, good tabs/alignment bolts, JBA 1-4” High Cater UCAs. The Tech had my alignment worse than I had it with the stock arms when I left… *this was partially my bad I did not provide the tech JBA specs*. They told me I was 1degree out on camber when they met caster at this point

-Alignment 5: TRD 5100’s 2” lift, good tabs/alignment bolts, JBAs, *attempting at JBA Specs. Same issue as before They said you need to pick between either camber or caster but we can't do both

*I had a great conversation with JBAs support team. These guys are super helpful! He'd pointed me in the direction of correcting a potentially bent frame (attached if you're bored and like to read). Most notable quote from out conversation

"Toyotas have a very uncommon and relatively weak single shear upper arm mounting format that`s quite easy to tweak. That`s the bad news, the good news is that which is easy to tweak out of whack is also easy to tweak back where it should be. ;) "

^Why the psychological 4.5 deg of caster? Just run less caster if you need to. May in fact be better to have less caster on the driver's side to compensate for road crown.

You're more likely to bend the spindle than the UCA mount.

My goal isn’t to get 4.5deg caster at this point. I really just want to be able to drive straight with a straight wheel without burning tires up. And I guess they were having an impossible time even doing just that.
How would you know if your spindle was bent? I have it in at another shop today for a second opinion… so we’ll see

In the accident where the guy hit the fence it snapped the drivers side strut too I guess (i believe this failure was due to a sharp vertical force when he dropped 3-6’ vertically off the road into the ditch right before he hit fense)

I would think 2.5-3.0 positive caster would be sufficient.....caster want wear tires

Caster just affects the self-centering behavior of tires. FSM value for caster is less, like 2-3 deg. Higher caster can lead to higher steering effort. Priority is to get camber to 0 to minimize tire wear.

Have you went to a different alignment shop? Why don’t think the frame is tweaked? Is that your truck pictures in conversation with JBA?

Crisis averted! The second opinion was able to get the vehicle into JBA alignment specs no issues. The thing drives straight now too... 7 alignments later.

Fun fact, the new shops initial readings of my alignment that les Schwab had left me with not even 15hrs prior didn't even hardly resemble the the results of the new alignments places initial readings

Tire-Rama on 4th Ave in Billings Montana is the place to be apparently!!

    Glad you got it solved.

Les Schwab is the absolute worst. I regret it every time.

yes it is! Which made it very easy to imagine that the frame had been bent haha
