Just replaced my glazed over OEM headlights with new ones, no foo-foo / gaper light mods for this pro use truck. Peeling back the fender liner makes getting to the 4th bolt laughably easy. Besides that, I have my 10-15mm sockets and various drive extensions wrapped in Gaffer's tape for grip, makes this kind of around the corner stuff super easy. Nothing like a tiny 10mm driver to get most of the turning done without slipping off before you even get the wrench in there.

And yeah, don't fight with the lights, just turn the driver side to 2:00 O'Clock and the passenger side one to 10:00 O'Clock, poof! they come right out.

This took me about an hour including cleaning...

Put a set of Spyder HID headlights w/HALO's and LED's in my 08 PreRunner and it wasn't too bad an experience. Getting the old guys out was a pain, especially the one bolt on the bottom everyone fusses about. Putting the new ones in was really no problem since they already had a wire harness for plug & play into the stock headlight plug. Only had to wire in the HALO's and LED's. Hardest part really was finding a flat enough spot to park in front of a building to adjust the headlight beams since they were WAY off. Backside of a local Wal-Mart worked just fine ;)

The OP painted his Blue to match his truck. My question is.... HAs anybody done this and color matched the Barcelona Red? Just wondering how it looks. Would like to see a couple of pics before I do mine.

Very good job with the write up. I broke he tab that holds the clip and had to replace the whole assembly. The pictures were a great help, thanks. I used a gearwrench for that tricky screw. It was easier than using a socket.

I installed my lights almost a year ago. (I bought blacked out lights, I didn't bake mine.) No problems at all. I sealed them and then yesterday one started to have moisture inside. So I am assuming I need to take the light back out. How do I get the moisture out? Then reseal? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!!

I am having the same issue of a leaky headlamp, but it is just a eBay OEM style one that is doing it. Problem I am going to have is that I now have a bull bar in the way:

    http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/2nd-gen-tacomas/164975-bumpers-2nd-gens-only-9.html#post3984647

Any opinions as to if I will be able to work around having to take the bumper off?

afaik, Headlights should be swappable from 2005-2011, since 2012 the headlights have be re-designed.

The taillights should be swappable too. Unless the wiring harness has changed...

Backup cam in the tailgate handle mod.
Just wondering how you got that clip released on the trimpiece below headlight. I started to do the headlight removal and stopped because I thought I was going to break that trimpiece, couldnt get it off. Your pic shows it without the headlight in. how do you do it when its in?

Very cool. Tnx for the pics. I bought HID headlights awhile ago and now am ready to install them. A lot of aftermarket sites say 6000K is white, but all the OEM Audi bulbs are 4300K...HID low beam and super bright Xenon high beams...I'm looking for HID fog lights that fit the stock fog light opening. Any ideas?

Just take a long flat headed screw driver. once the inside is loose, you can pull it away enough to stick the head of the screwdriver in there and depress the clip. I only took that picture w/ the light out b/c it was easier to show the process. It would've been tough to capture the clip w/ the light still in.

So I'm assuming you have to remove the front grill to remove the headlights? how hard is that. I've never had to do that before.

The front grill has two bolts on top, and two clips at the bottom.

Yes, you do. Its extremely easy and should take no more than 5 minutes. 10mm or phillips screwdriver and you're good to go.
