I'm replacing the rad hoses on my '09 and was thinking of doing the heater hoses at the same time. They look kinda gnarly to get at. Anyone done this?

NVM, WTF! Toyota parts Direct says around $200 bucks for each hose! Rad hoses were $60 apiece

Straight/bulk hoses no good for heater core?

It mite be expensive for OEM, but it’s a lot cheaper than dumping your coolant on the highway!

True story. It is a case of convenience to replace the heater hoses. They still look ok. I put a spool piece in the upper rad hoses for a temp. sender and it's not sealing great. Over time the middle of the hose where the spool piece goes has expanded quite a bit in diameter. Thought while it was drained I'd replace heater hoses. They don't 'look' that bad. Lots of sharp bends in them so bulk hose would be tough

Search around for the part number. Granted there was a promotion going on but I got the "big" and little heater hoses for probably $150 combined. Still pretty crazy for a rubber hose; but the last ones held out for 200k so I'm buying in to the hype.

I ran into this long ago with a GM vehicle. Parts guy gave me some straight hose, elbows, clamps, fittings. Ugh. But it got done.

I replaced my heater hoses with aftermarket parts the other year ... probably mostly 'Gates' brand.

Perhaps Toyota hoses would have been better... but I think new aftermarket hoses are probably better than 15+ year old stock hoses. I honestly don't know. I probably spent more like $60 on all the heater hoses -- that's a guess, but no way it was $200.

I was removing the heads though, so I had to remove all the hoses anyway. It made sense to replace all the hoses and gaskets along the way.

Replacing the hoses just for the sake of replacing the hoses would be a pain in the ass, though... in my opinion, not warranted without signs of wearing out. Pretty sure you have to remove the upper and lower intake manifolds to get at them. If you're going to dig that deep for no reason, may as well also replace the marzlevane seals and rebalance the waneshafts.

Another reason I went aftermarket: I couldn't figure out the Toyota catalog. To this day, they don't show actual pictures for most products, and their diagrams are consistently confusing, contradictory, and useless. I bought the radiator hoses from Toyota, but I gave up for the rest. What worked -- for all but one hose of the whole coolant system -- was to browse the Rock Auto catalog, and identify each hose by photograph... holding the old ones from my engine in my hand for comparison.

Torn about spending the money, but with it drained for the rad hoses and 225,000 kilometres on the truck, prolly prudent. I'll check around for prices.

Got a guy on each shoulder whispering/yelling in my ears. One sounds like you ;-) and the other says replace it all just in case. Got time on my hands as it's not my daily driver, so I'll decide after hearing from the fine folk on TW

I spent a huge amount on dealer parts to refresh my '12, enough that adding $350 or whatever for $60 worth of hoses didn't really make the bottom line jump much. I got a bitchin' deal on the truck itself and there was also a 15% off deal at the time so I am splurging a bit and keeping it almost entirely OEM. If I were just doing it as a "while I am in there" thing and budget conscious; I think going 3rd party is totally legit. I'd argue harder on the value of dealer parts for things like wheel bearings where labor is high, and quality of components matters a lot.
