Ya...I think that's the most likely issue. I'm using AHD standard cameras that aren't supported by Anytime camera switcher or Pyle. But I do like the Pyle better. Glad I bought the Joying cameras off Amazon for easy return! So I'll order some other cameras that aren't AHD signals

Standard AHD is an open video signal transmission system without delay supporting the following resolutions:

    • AHD-L – 960 x 576 px (PAL)
    • AHD-M – 1280 x 720 px
    • AHD-H – 1920 x 1080 px
    • 3 Mpx – 2048 x 1536 px
    • 4 Mpx – 2560 x 1440 px
    • 5 Mpx – 2592 x 1944 px

11.6 arrived this evening. Immediately went to the truck to check size and fit. The 270mm width on their website is accurate so… it’s grande. For anybody interested, it’s sits about 1/4” inside the vent openings. Some of the pictures online make it look like it partially covers the vents but that’s not the case. Plan is to mount it as high as it’ll go even if that means only two clips. We’ll see how that works but if it works, it’ll require a simple filler strip…which could also provide space for future buttons. Should look much better once the silver vent trim is wrapped or painted black.

Big thanks to @rnish for the write up. Was missing the 6V step down for the oem camera. Once I wrap my head around the harness modification, install should be quick.

You have a 2015, did your joying wire harness not incorporate an OEM backup camera plug? Mine did, for the 2014 w/JBL. I didn't need the 6v step down or any additional adapters

plug and play would be great but my 2015 does not have the JBL system.

EDIT: ATM, the most challenging part is going to be depinning the TY12 harness so the trigger wire can be connected to the 28-pin connector… and do it today without special tools

EDIT 2: This worked for depinning the male and female ends of the TY12 adapter harness. Thanks @Regnar!

I'm kinda confused why the JBL system has the factory camera backup built in, but the normal ones don't?

Just for comparison purposes here's a pic of the 2012-2015 JBL harness. You connect the female and male yellow rca's and the white connector is for the Tacoma side backup cam. Really makes me wonder if this harness would work on other non JBL also. If anyone is in Denver area we could test it

Edit: It also has built in Toyota factory Aux/USB connector

    Odd indeed.

Mocked up the modified harness. These are taped together to confirm it’s wired correctly. will solder this evening, or use crimp connectors for testing tomorrow morning then solder.

There was blurb somewhere about the JBL’s use CANBUS for SWC. Don’t now what else.

Also my Joying harness had a wire labeled “key1” (if memory serves me) which had to plug back into “Can1” or something. Used for analog SWC.

Concerning the video wars. I got my GOPRO to connect to the iPhone. Still fighting with the GOPRO Joying connection.

I think Joying blocks some aftermarket SW. Open Camera, Camera MX can’t see my front camera.

That would make sense why my harness has a canbus decoder and I don't see one on @AmberTRD harness

Just so you know if you are careful you can peel back the crimp on the pin and sockets and recrimp them with needle nose pliers. I put a dab of solder on mine to be sure.

    11.6 installed for fit+function testing.

    Initial observations:
Install was very simple. All cables will get Tessa taped because…damn there’s a lot of cables and I hate rattles. May add some firm foam blocks under the JHU for added support.

The screen looks good mounted in its highest position while still using four mounts. There’s a small gap at the bottom but it’s not noticeable from normal driver/passenger seat positions.
With the screen mounted in its highest position using only two mounts, I think this is the best look and closest to how many current car infotainment system are designed, including my fiancée’s 2022 Corolla. Better sight lines, less looking down away from the road. This will require a filler strip but it should be easy to make out of black acrylic. The filler strip will serve as the mounting panel for the Joying microphone. For now, I can put a strip of ultra gloss black vinyl over the gap. The yellow clips are visible from an extreme angle but some black foam rubber weatherstripping would eliminate that.

Only had time to test volume up/down but SWC seems to work. Big test will be using the Joying USWC with the Taco’s SWC for the same functions - volume, pause, next/back, answer/disconnect. Not optimistic.

OEM backup camera works, big thanks again to @rnish for the harness mod details. The image is noisy but usable. That’s to be expected without upgrading the camera and cabling, but then to my knowledge the JHU will only accept composite RCA which is a severe resolution limiting factor.

After a little EQing, the JHU amp does sound better than the stock Entune. Impressive for relatively low RMS. Still running factory speakers but it sounds good enough until the full audio upgrade happens.

The JHU is very responsive. Limiting factor at this point is tethering to the iPhone 13Pro. CarPlay is slow to load and Id like it to automatically load and connect before anything else.

The initial Joying UI is just OK. Will primarily use CarPlay until I get the data SIM sorted out with AT&T, then Car Launcher Pro or Agama will replace the Joying launcher.

    Questions:
Did most of you stick the GPS and 4G antennas to the underside of the dash? Assuming yes but want to confirm.

Having never used Android before, is there a way to set Google Maps in the Joying launcher to load in dark mode? It doesn’t seem to understand night mode or have a headlight trigger like CarPlay.

Is there a way to lower the brightness in night mode even more? (possibly related to next post)

Any suggestions with passwords? These did not work to access advanced settings:
    Factory settings: 3368
    Changing ui: 8080
    Logo setting: 0000
    Backlight: 5768
Only tried them once but will try again in a bit.

I have the GPS antenna mounted on top of the dash. Up front close to the window. The 4g antennas are mounted 1 under the dash midpoint. The second is in the driver side A pillar, close to the window.

One of the wins of Android 12 is faster tethering.

    Went with Car Launcher Pro

3368 has worked for me on the 11.6" so far. Let me know if you experience the resolution issues, if you upgrade to Android 12

Also concerning slow connection; check the HU and phone WiFi setting is 5GHz vs 2.4GHz

Chatted with AT&T and got a data only line for $10/mo. That's about all I was willing to pay for the convenience of not tethering. They remotely configured my iPhone 13 Pro to work with an eSIM and move it's physical SIM card and put it in the JHU. The JHU, equipped with the old physical SIM card from the iPhone, will pull data from the new line. Took maybe 10 minutes while laying on the couch doing really overdue expense reports. Won't have time to test it for a couple weeks probably...lots of work travel and weekend family stuff coming up.

Threw a strip of ultra-gloss black vinyl over the gap for testing. The vinyl looks better than the Joying plastic so the entire bezel will get wrapped at some point. But now that I know this is the position I want the monitor, I'll CAD the filler strip and cut it out black acrylic or ABS. Also threw the Joying USWC into the center cup holder and really like the position and feel. Fingers crossed it'll work the way I want it to...but probably not. Ignore the shift boot, that's a different project in the early concept phase.

Also need to go to an AT&T store because their chat rep's info wasn't accurate. He said the iPhone's nano SIM was no longer needed and could be transferred to the truck. Well, that was tested last night and is completely false. The AT&T corporate store nearby will need provide a physical SIM card for the data line. Can anyone confirm the Joying takes a nano SIM?
