Great write up. I’m a loss when it comes to automotive wiring, so I’d like to avoid it.
But what about the canbus harness Joying is mentioning to me? I can’t find any info about it, it’d be great if it truly was plug and play.

Do you have the JBL system? I assume Joying knows what they are talking about.

No JBL. I just placed an order so I’ll update here when I install it

I’m sorry if this is somewhere in this thread but we’re almost at 1,000 posts on here so it’s hard to navigate. Anyways, I have a Pioneer AVH-110BT obviously with a Toyota wire harness to run it, does the joying plug into that same wire harness or is there one supplied with the unit?

I guess what I’m asking, will it be plug and play since I already have an aftermarket harness?

The joying is plug n play with the factory wire harness/factory connectors. You will need to remove the aftermarket harness used with the pioneer

Awesome! Do you know if they have a multi camera splitter or combiner? I found one before but it didn't support AHD. Wanting to display all four at same time for off road rock monitoring

The head unit has two inputs. The rear cam input and a second yellow RCA on the back for video in. If you enable it in the menu, that becomes the input for the front cam.

3rd gen here…anyone know if the joying backup camera will fit in the stock tailgate handle backup camera location? Is there a harness you can buy that would make it somewhat a plug and play replacement into existing wiring? I just got the camera and as is it looks like I need to tap power wire into backup light then run the video wire into the cab (they don’t even look long enough to do it without extending them)….

Confirmed bitches. Joying head unit w/ canbus installed in a 2014 Tacoma non-JBL with the factory backup camera. No wiring/splicing/etc whatsoever. Plug and play.

Do all your steering wheel controls work properly or can you assign functions to them.

That's one annoyance of mine. Non canbus

Yes they do, I didn’t have to assign anything. Vol, next, back, and even mode work out of the box. I’m assuming the phone buttons work too.

Is your internal mic also really shitty?

Awesome! I will have to try the canbus harness then.

My mic and call volume seem really low. I changed the mic for a better one referenced in this thread somewhere but haven't really had a chance to test it out yet.

Can anyone confirm what I've read in reviews on Amazon... There is no way to dim the screen for night driving? There must be a way, right?

So it's true? Screen dimming was not a consideration when they designed this HU. Someone dropped the ball there.

you can absolutely dim it at night. It is annoying that it's not intuitive way to do it, though. If you search this thread, I've posted the way to do it several times.

FYI, I have a Joying 9" buttonless for sale that came off my 2014 JBL Tacoma when I sold the truck. $400

I currently have the 11.5" Joying in my Jeep and it also does dim at night

having read 49 pages, can confirm, unit does dim on headlights and you can go into settings to adjust the brightness. search "small light control" iirc.
