Thanks. Good to know. Thought it was really unlikely to not be dimmable. But so many reviews said it wasn't.

I’ve got the same non-jbl, but backup camer in rearview mirror, steering wheel controls, I’ve read abunchbofnoahea on here what is canbus. I’m just wondering if this will plug and play on 2012 base model radio/steering wheel controls, thanks ordering tomorrow hopefully it’s decent. Sure it’s tons better than this shitty stock thing

    Little this, Little that.

Where did you get this 10.1" 1080P version? the joying site doesn't show that.

Wait, that's the OEM backup camera feeding the Joying head unit? You didn't have to do anything but hook up the harness doing the install inside of the dash? What's the canbus?

I've been screwing around, running the cable to the Joying camera and using the backup camera mount inside the tailgate handle but it doesn't provide a good wide angle. It's actually pointing straight down.

What is the fix on the terrible microphone? I've relocated it twice, and have gone back and forth every setting possible. Is there a replacement mic that solves it? At this point I have to change to speakerphone for anyone to hear me.

Try this mic. You will have to replace the OEM mic between the map lights. Sounds great according to the wife who complained about the joying mic.

I have the same Expeditions Essentials rail and I was able to use plastic spacers and longer bolts which allowed the rail to set slightly higher and clear the head unit. I can post pics later if you'd like.

Yeah if you don’t mind!! I never thought about using spacers, that’s a great idea.

Okay nice. Do you think it would work if you just didn’t use the middle piece? Like just bolting the 2 end bolts to the side brackets. Obviously that’s not as sturdy but I’m sure it would be fine for just a phone.

Yessss! For sure. I was too lazy to take that middle piece off. The weakest link of the setup is those brackets that are screwed into the dash though. Mine seems to be holding up fine since I only put a phone and small accessories up there.

I love how the product page says "Latest Android 10". Like dude, Android 10 was 3 years ago. Why can't these be more current than that?

They have an upgraded firmware to Android 12 on their support page.

Available for most Android 10 units

Hmmm, now I'm interested. Might be time to get back on the full function car stereo track.

Years ago, before stuff like this existed, I integrated a Google Nexus 9 into the dash. It was a real pain in the ass and took a LOT of software customization. Having native Android 12 in the dash with all the peripherals integrated out of the box would be awesome. Gonna have to dig this config file out of the archives haha.

LOL I did the same thing with a Nexus install in my M3. I REALLY REALLY REALLY tried to make it work. But there were just so many minor problems. Ended up using a Sony with Android Auto instead

Yep, Timur was bad ass. No idea why no one else figured out how to do what he was doing but it was fantastic. He and I were working on the Nexus 9 as his next public release and then one day he just vanished. Asked me to delete all copies of his software and he disappeared from XDA. Super weird.

Love it. I started my journey with a Nexus 7 too. I really pushed Timur hard for support on the 9 for the larger screen. It was a bomb setup back in 2016. Hell, I'd kill for it TODAY. But it looks like the Joying would get me nearly all the way there!
