I think it’s AR camera or something; my headunit came with it.

They got back to me on Friday, apparently the piece that they are replacing should be fairly easy, open up the unit, unscrew it, and unclip a ribbon cable, then install the new one and put it all back together. They had me pay a $70 deposit on the new one, now I'm waiting for tracking info. Deposit to be refunded once I send the faulty part back.

Seems simple enough, definitely a huge inconvenience though as I'm not sure where they're sending it from (US vs China or elsewhere), and I'm supposed to be going on a road trip in about 10 days, as well as another around Thanksgiving. Will be pretty disappointing if I can't get it managed before both.

I should take about 40 or so minute after removal of the unit. Hopefully you get it soon and installed quickly.

Ok I need some help I have been searching and trying to find videos and have not found anything yet for what I want to do. I just purchased and installed the joying 9" with android 12. I have seen where people have changed the Joying startup screen to say the toyota emblem and I have seen where people have changed the "wallpaper" I have loaded photos that I wanted to use for the "wallpaper" but can't figure out how to set them. I have gone into the factory settings and found the joying startup logo but nothing else is in there and don't know where to store the things I load so I can actually make the changes. Any help or guidance to how to work with thus UI is appreciated I have loaded nova launcher but haven't been able to play with it to much yet either.

Welp. I'm an idiot. somewhat throttled by technology.

Original headunit is working today, turns out a setting in the carplay app was changed, but I didn't know and couldn't change it back because the setting is only accessible while the unit is trying to connect, not once it's already connected. It wasn't connecting right away today, which is when I noticed that settings menu, think it was a noise reduction setting (left channel was on i believe). Turned it off entirely and the headunit was playing sounds again. Let out a scream of joy on my commute lol.

They ended up sending an entire new headunit out to me, so I'm gonna hold onto that one for now, and see the original does over the road trip I'm taking next week. If there are no issues, i'll return the replacement. If there are, I'll swap them out and return the original.

I have the 8" with knobs and still running android 10 so it may be a little different on your HU.

    Boot Up/Start Up LOGO
Go to settings; Factory and Boot Screen Logo and you should see a lot of different logos. Notice mine is set to Toyota for boot up.
    GridArt_20231012_125908571.jpg

    Wallpaper
Go to Settings; Device and Display - You should see Wallpaper
    GridArt_20231012_130114783.jpg

Next screen tap on Wallpapers and you should see choices for wallpaper. Select the Wallpapers
    GridArt_20231012_130256475.jpg

You should see this (top photo)
    GridArt_20231012_130340180.jpg

My wallpaper picture was saved on a stick then uploaded (via USB) and saved on the HU, but I don't recall where. My photo's??

I'm in CC, so if you need additional help I'm in the Bluff.

I got the start up logo figured out. There was an APK in the files that I had to download which gave me the option to select the start up screen. As far as the background/home screen I downloaded ZEDGE to be able to load something but that disappeared today. On the wallpaper thing all it gives me is the preset wallpaper options there is no option to go to my photos and load something else. Which is why I tried using the ZEDGE app but like I said I am back to a blank screen today.

From what I was reading on FB the android 12 is not as well supported yet and currently the android 10 is the better option for setting up and customizing. I don't like the main screen on this unit as you can't make any changes to the native layout. Which makes you have to load something else.

Hopefully someone with v12 will chime in. In the meantime, I'll try and recall how/where I did mine. Good luck on your quest.

I just put the 9" Android 12 unit in my truck yesterday. No instructions whatsoever and the wiring diagram didn't match. I found wiring diagrams for the cameras on the Joying site and that was the only part that wasn't 100% clear. But I had taken the old brackets off the factory unit and when I put them on the Joying unit I couldn't then get the faceplate on no matter how hard I pushed. I ended up taking them off and just let the DIN unit hang on the faceplate (saw that on YouTube). But the faceplate is a bit loose, even after taking the yellow clips off the factory unit and putting them on the Joying faceplate tabs. Anyone else have this issue? What did you do?

See my post 1307, page 66. I had the same issue, if your faceplate connects that same as mine, I was able to solve the problem by using 2 drywall screws to secure the mounting bracket for the faceplate. Dash front view.jpg Dash side view.jpg

I just got back from a borego springs trip. Got into some deep canyons with no service. What everyone using to keep GPS signal ? I used the stock one that came with it but it seems useless. Won’t connect without having my hotspot turned on

I placed the Joying GPS "puck" on the PS - A pillar and haven't had any connection issues.
    PXL_20231106_180554763.jpg

But, I also cheat by using a dedicated GPS that's mounted on the DS - A pillar. My phone goes pretty much untouched when I'm driving. I'll answer a phone call, but never a text message. You can ask my wife about that.

Can anyone tell me what the blue and black plugs are for? I just put the old unit back in thinking it was the wrong harness.

2011 non JBL, just volume and mode on steering wheel

    Is the Blue the AUX?

This is for the new 11.6” android 12

Will the steering wheel controls work with this unit?

I used the 9" Android 12 unit but I imagine the plugs are the same. Each one on the Joying end was sized to match so it was pretty straightforward. I did have one plug that went unused - I assumed that was for the steering wheel controls I don't have.
