3 - I installed the front AR camera (and am continuing with factory rear camera although I wish I had gotten the Joying rear too) and I can set it to record while driving to memory card (it creates a specified length of time clips - 1m, 2m, 5m is max I think).

Exactly what I'm looking for. Good to know. Do I have to connect a memory card or the unit has its own storage? Also, where would the memory card be connected to?

I don't think it lets you record to the unit's drive but I could be wrong. There's a SD card slot in the front and I popped a 128GB card into it.

Checking out your possible purchase and comparing it with the Joying head unit (HU) that I purchased 3 years ago, the back of the radios look very similar. Mine is the 8" with two knobs, android 10 with 8GB. I recently added the backup camera and overall, I'm very happy with the whole setup. I could update to v12, but for me what I have works. I could never get the OBD2 to work which was fine because I have a ScanGauge 2 that takes care of what I need to monitor. For GPS I use a dedicated Garman on the A pillar. The Joying GPS antenna works great and I'll bring it on on screen for a wider view sometimes while driving cross country.
My HU does not have a front slot for a memory card or SD, but from what I can tell the HU you're looking at, like mine has at least 3 USB connections that could be used for flash drives. I have a huge collection of music on one and movies on another one. The third is not used.
Here's a pictue of the back of our head units. I've drawn in the 3rd USB drive that came with my HU. Your HU is on top and mine is on the bottom

Wow this helps a lot. Thanks for your input and that diagram. Seems like mine has a usb dongle as well. I wonder if that is free to use for my flash drive as I can route that for easy access or would I have to remove the head unit every time to access the flash drives when they get full of recordings?

The cables are long enough so initially I routed them down and over the left side (wall) of the glove box. Super easy especially when the HU isn't fully in the dash. The cables do not interfere with the opening or closing of the box. Once I was settled with what I had on the two thumb drives, I stashed them in a cavity next to the glove box.

Here's a couple of pictures with a crude illustration of what I'm trying to explain. I robbed the picture off the inner web.
    Cables in the box

Cables stashed just behind that lip.

You sir are da man. I am sold! Another quick question, how's the quality of the camera? Are license plates easily readable?

Someone else will need to chime in for that question. I only have their backup camera which mounted inside of my camper shell or cap. I wired it up with a toggle switch so I can check on my dirt bikes when trailering them. Considering the camera is looking through tinted glass, the picture quality is very good.

Who out there uses the car play feature for iPhone? Does it connect fast and stay connected for most of the time? Seems like this is a Android first type of HU.

I use the carplay feature every time I use my truck. I can't remember if it automatically connects by default once set up, or I changed a setting to do so, but it usually connects within 15-20 seconds of startup for me.

Occasionally, it doesn't connect, and I have to go into my phone's bluetooth settings to connect manually. Then it loads up pretty quick.

Have never had an issue with it disconnecting, though I have had the headunit itself freeze on me a few times. Music would continue to play and navigation would still work, but the touchscreen wouldn't work. quick reset would solve it.

I have remote start and by the time I am in the truck it is already connected to Car Play. You will have to set it up to automatically launch Car Play App on the Headunit on Startup. I occasionally have a hiccup and usually going to the Home Screen and Back in Fixes the issue. This is rare for me. If you create a “Short Cut” on your phone you can have it automatically start playing music on any app launch any map like Waze. Almost don’t even touch the unit except for volume changes.

Mmm okay. That doesn't scare me away. I figured if some people with kenwoods pioneers etc have the same type of issues, id take my chances with joying. If wireless carplay has issues I can just use wired as back up which seems nice. Plus I always charge my phone driving anyways.

Dang that's a cool feature. I like that. Too bad I don't have remote start

I have exactly the same CarPlay experience w/ my JOYING head unit. It is pretty reliable 97% of the time, which is enough.

I've never had to go into my phone's bluetooth settings, I just put the phone in Airplane mode for 10 seconds at the same time as power-cycling the JOYING unit.

It's not so much "settings", more so just going back to the bluetooth tab and re-selecting the headunit to make the connection manually. Don't have to forget/reconnect, or reset the headunit. I'll have to try the airplane mode next time.

From someone that is just went through this I would steer clear of the android 12 version. I sent mine back because it had way too many bugs to operate consistently. (changing radio frequencies on its own navigating to different screens on its own and being unresponsive to navigate back unless restarted and would repeat within a few mins of restart. Just to give you a couple examples) I had them send me the android 10 version that I have been happy with so far.
Everything I have read on FB from people that have also bought the 12 have similar issues.
Then its going to cost you 100 dollars out of your pocket to send it back to facilitate an exchange. Just trying to save you a couple of bucks and a headache trying to get it to operate properly. Oh and this was about a 3 month process because I was emailing back and forth with them for about 3 weeks before they finally agreed to exchange it. Then they have to receive the old one before they send the new one and it gets stuck in customs.

got a question someone might know the answer to. radio has been awesome i got it set up so it automatically comes up maps in aerial view and serius xm playing which is what i wanted. its not a big problem just kinda aggravating everytime i call out or get a call when the call is over the music starts playing automatically then stops after about 2 seconds and i have to hit the pause/ play button again to get it back playing. not a huge deal just figured it might be a fix somehow if someone knows or it could just be a glitch im not sure

How do you have the Sirius XM playing, through the phone app or their device? I have their Onyx Plus that is hooked up to the Joying HU via a RCA audio in jack and have not experienced what you're describing.

That's still odd to me. I have the 12 version and haven't had any of those issues.

What's the FB group you mentioned?

@Naveronski I think its joying unofficial android head units. Mine would change frequencies open up to a settings page and essentially freeze there until I could reset the unit. I went through the update process with them a couple of times. It almost seemed like the unit was possessed. It would do all sorts of things while driving all on its own and really it was unusable.
