I’m using a Sony mic recommended here… it seems better but still not great.

I downloaded power amp off your recommendation because I also want to replace the Bluetooth music app… doesn’t seem like it works for that? Only plays locally stored audio? I want to stream BT audio from various apps on my phone.

Sorry, I should have clarified. I use PowerAmp w my local music collection on USB and its great for that. I also like the interface. Apologies, I should have been more clear. Thanks for the recommendation on the Sony mic, I’ll look it up and check it out!

I never tried the built in mic, but the mic they included works great in my truck. Not one complaint on how I sound or outside noise. I do have a two part sound deadening system throughout the cab and doors. Also, I have the mic mounted just to the right of my head.

I do recall others trying another mic and being happy with it. I'll check to see if I can find something.

I haven't read all 73 pages, but I've browsed through the thread a bunch. Are you guys mostly buying the Tacoma specific units?

I really like this unit but I'm worried about the fit because of how the Tacoma stereo is recessed into the dash.

What about the accessories? It seems people like the rear camera from Joying? I imagine I'd need the OBD adapter to sync the torque app. And I don't currently have TPMS sensors, but I'd replace them if this could read them. Although I have 5 tires, and I don't imagine the ECU is capable of outputting data for 5 tires?

Please steer me in the right direction!!

I'd say yes, but I have seen where there have been other model head units intalled. There are a few youtube videos that might give you some insight on how the unit you are looking into might be installed.

What about the accessories? It seems people like the rear camera from Joying?
I intalled the Joying rear camera and it has worked out very well. I wired it up with a toggle switch so I can turn it on when I want. Flip the toggle and it pops up on the screen.

Yes. an OBD2 scanner will be needed and when I bought my Joying HU the directions stated it needed to be an ELM OBD2 scanner. Since I already had a ScanGauge2 in my truck I haven't tried this feature. However there are plenty of others in this thread that have. And yes, it should read all five TMPS. Although and correct me if I''m wrong, I'm pretty sure your truck did not have one for the spare.

Hopefully this helped and will get others to chime in on your questions.

No my truck did not have one for the spare, but is there a way to verify that it will read 5? Also, I recall seeing somewhere that it will recognize "low pressure" but won't tell me the actual pressure. Is that correct? I've tried searching, and I've found answers that are CLOSE to my situation, but nothing definite.

You'll need to find someone with a scanner, like a tire shop and they can also sync each TMPS with the ECU. I also understand each one has an individual ID number, if you have those ID#'s it would be helpful if any sync issues come up.

Also, I recall seeing somewhere that it will recognize "low pressure" but won't tell me the actual pressure. Is that correct?
Seems like I've seen actual PSi readings on this thread. I do know my SG2 reads pressure for all 5 but not the location of the tire. Had to figure that out myself. Honestly I don't monitor the tires with the SG2, only trans fluid temp, coolant temp, RPM and MPG.

Here's a picture from when I bought new tires and replaced the sensors.

I'm a little confused about some of the options. In particular, the the JBL, and small/big screen options.

My truck currently has an aftermartket alpine stereo, and the JBL system. I do plan to eliminate the JBL amp/speakers before too long. But I noticed that the different options, also change the inputs/outputs In the back of the H/U. Which should I choose? For the record, my truck originally had JBL/Small Screen.

@JeffBoyardee -- Here's my interpretation; since your truck originally had the JBL/small screen I would think you'd choose the big screen Joying HU.

What does your current setup look like, does it still have the original bezel holding your current Alpine unit? Picture maybe?

Not sure about what all the JBL entails. An amplifier - higher wattage output with better speakers??

Also not sure of what if any issues running an non JBL head unit in a vehicle set up for JBL.

Someone with more knowledge than me needs to answer that one.

My first system was a 4 track with a 12 to 6 volt converter. The second system was an 8 track and a suitcase to hold all the tapes. Then the leap to cassettes.

Still think your choice would be the big screen.

My original setup was the 6 disc non JBL . Option A in the picture of the "purchase guide."

I appreciate the fact of you doing your homework on this before making the purchase.

    Good luck with this project!

They will answer you, but since they're in China and the time difference, it might take a day before you get an answer.

They have a forum and a FB page too. You may find some info between the two.

How to i find out the model # for this. I lost the box and info in a move. This head unit has been glitching and reboots at random. I have been dealing with this about a two years. this is not my daily. What would be a good upgrade for this? or do i need update the software?

Seems like the serial number should be helpful with finding the model number of your head unit.

So I just installed mine in a 2015/non-jbl and can’t figure out what I’m doing wrong to get the factory reverse camera to work. I followed the video and your post about the orange wire (vs purple). When I shift to reverse, I get a black screen and “no signal” text. So the head unit is receiving the signal that I’m in reverse, but no video feed. Any ideas from the collective group? Everything else works great so far

Try going into Settings -> Display -> Rev Camera -> Reverse Camera System and choose CVBS N

I'm looking at buying one of these for my 08' Taco that was passed down to me. I wanna get the big screen but idk if it'd be compatible with my Tacoma. Is it compatible or do you know?

I don't really wanna dump an entire paycheck into one of these only to realize its too big for my poor ol' truck :goingcrazy:
