So far, so good. Per joying, I only need the GPS antenna, and since I run a hotspot, the WiFi antennas are not needed. Ended up placing the GPS in my a-pillar since it’s a magnet.

Still haven’t figured out to set the time. It’s an hour off.

For my USB connection, I ended up drilling a whole in the change tray just below then 4WD selector.

The regular 2012 steering wheel controls work normally when you connect the can and key wires together behind the radio as the instructions tell you. I did try installing a 2021 4runner wheel into my 2012, the factory swc connector behind the airbag is the same but the controls do not work, either a different wire needs to be connected behind the Joying unit, or a canbus decoder is needed which is more likely.

The connector is the same for most Toyota models. It's just where the pins are. I ended up grabbing a 2014 venza/Camry wheel with the controls, and the clock spring. I gotta start pouring over the diagrams and see what I need to repin

I believe the original swc's use different resistors for each different button, but for the vehicles with more buttons on the wheel this no longer works and they need a can bus to operate.

I hope someone can point out my mistake so I don’t have to read the full 85 pages of this thread… I’m in a 2009 Tacoma SR5 with the non JBL system (Joying A model of the 9” unit) and my steering wheel controls aren’t working. I just received and installed my head unit, but the harness only attached 3 of the 4 cables that were connected to the factory unit.

The fourth is the second from the left I this pic:

Joying said this is connector is not needed for the install. I assumed this was the reason the steering wheel controls weren’t working, but not according to Joying.

Am I doing something wrong, or is Joying mistaken? Thanks for any help in advance!

UPDATE: After working with Joying I was able to get everything working. The only remaining issue is the noise floor. Anyone else have that problem? Factory speakers still… for the moment.

Does the joying unit retain the factory USB/AUX port below the climate controls on later 2nd gens for charging and wired CarPlay, or is it wireless only?

I got a similar one as a gift: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DRFFBWBR I think it is the same brand, but I have an issue when the vehicle is off for more than 30 min or so. When turning it on back again, the touchscreen wont work at all until I press the reset button, which just does a restart.

Did you had any issues like that?
Also what canbus settings you have on yours? Mine is: SimpleSoft->Toyota->TOYOTA_XP03 I dont know if that is the culprit but I havent found anything yet

Perhaps you could enlighten the rest of the board with the solution. It might help someone encountering the same issue.

I updated the boot up logo to Toyota, but hate the Joying floating boot logo that follows the Toyota logo. Anyone know if it's possible to get rid of that?

How do I increase the volume for listening to text messages? I have to crank it to max volume just to hear them then it goes back to music and blows out my eardrums lol.

Not sure about those two issues above but I’ll add to it… just installed my 9” on my 2012 with JBL and it’s good overall but could be great if these issues weren’t happening.

Going into reverse, camera comes right on (whatever music is playing gets muted. Not sure why, if anyone can answer that), then whether I put it in park or drive from reverse, music comes back on and then it triggers to show the front camera screen. I have to hit the back button to get back to my waze/pandora split screen or If I keep driving or sit there parked for a while, it will automatically switch from front camera to my map/music screen but takes a few minutes.

That and losing the USB really sucks.

    Any thoughts?

Can't speak on the front camera issue as I don't have one for mine, but as far as the music being muted in reverse, that should be somewhere in the settings menus. You can adjust it to mute, play at a reduced volume, or not change at all, I have mine set to reduced.

I lost the USB on mine as well. But disappointing, however I have a dual USB installed in place of one of the 12v plugs under the radio.

Does anyone know if the old joying harness will work with the new model I have the UIS which stops at Android 10 and was looking at one of the new QCM models that's Android 12?

Just wanted to give my two cents here as I just finished this install on my new to me 2015 Tacoma.

I ended up ordering the 9" Joying with volume knob and Android 12 8GB Ram from AliExpress. These "new" Android 12 units come with everything you need short of a better mounting system.

It came with factory USB hookup adapter, harness for factory rearview camera from HU, supports factory steering wheel controls (already pre-connected CAN IN to CAN OUT) and factory mic. Pretty much no configuration required aside from boot logo. Sleep mode already enabled.

Literally the only thing short is better securing the HU into the dash, following other information found here, I utilized the clips from the old bezel onto the new bezel and only have them clipped in. Seems pretty secure right now. Everything is pretty light so time will tell how secure this is once I'm actually on some real trails.

Hope this helps down the line if anyone is looking into this upgrade.

Does anyone know if there’s a way to fix the delay the unit has? When I’m watching videos on it or through my phone with sound the delay is crazy. Also some delay when using Spotify too but not as much. Also, when using CarPlay and charging via the usb plug it came with, it dosent even seem to be charging at all. Is that because CarPlay drains my battery or just bad usb cable?
